- Argentinian Tasting
Hey all. Just had a private tasting with a new wine company in Argentina and thought I'd share.
The story: Some friends of mine went to Mendoza recently to tool around the area and get a sense of what's what, and met an American named Daniel Karlin who had just set up a little "wine club" in Buenos Aires called Anuva Wines. You can read about it here: http://www.anuvawines.com/about-us/
Basically, it's hand-selected wines that are available only in Argentina and to the wine club members. My friends talked him into giving them a tasting, and were impressed enough to book a second one, since it turned out Daniel was coming to the States to promote this club.
The tasting: Here's the info and tasting notes from the wines we tasted:
Hom Espumante: 70% Chardonnay, 30% Chenin, from the Lujan de Cuyo region of Mendoza. Bright and lively to the eye with hints of toast, honey and lemon in the nose. Flavors of white peach, lemon and grapefruit on the palate.
Anecon Torrontés: 100% Torrontés. Grapes from Salta but produced and bottled in Mendoza. Pale yellow with greenish hints. Very floral and very aromatic nose (jasmine and daisy) as well as some citric aromas (no kidding, the nose on this wine should be made into a perfume). In the mouth, light and dry with grapefruit, melon and pineapple flavors leading to a clean finish. Awesome wine for those in the ABC club (Anything But Chardonnay).
Mudai Pinot Noir: 100% Pinot Noir. Grapes from Rio Negro but produced and bottled in Mendoza. Transparent strawberry color with lovely primary aromas of clean earth and tree bark. Secondary aromas of spice and Strawberry. In the mouth, savory flavors accompany the red fruit found here. Quite complex, my second favorite wine of the six.
Mayol Bonarda: 100% Bonarda. Valle de Uco, Mendoza. Deep violet yet medium body. Raisin, plum and prune on the nose. Italian herbs and black fruits in the mouth. Firm tannins. *This was the first time I had tasted a Bonarda varietal. It's easy to see why it's often blended, as it is a very bold wine, but those who enjoy Malbecs, Syrahs, and Zins will find this a winner.
Cavagnaro Reserve Malbec: 100% Malbec. Maipú, Mendoza. Deep color, full bodied. 9 months in new oak barrels. Smoke, toast, vanilla and dark fruits on the nose, and butter as it opens. In the mouth, more dark fruits especially plum and black cherry with supporting oak notes. In a word: AMAZING.
And there was one more Malbec that I'm blanking on....the Cavagnaro blew it away!!
Anyway, I post this because I think this club is a really nice way to try wines from small producers that you wouldn't otherwise run across - unless you're in Argentina, that is. He seems to feel that Argentina is the future of winemaking....we can agree to disagree on that, but there's no doubt as to the quality of the wines we tasted. There are still openings on his tasting tour if anyone's interested. Basically, the tastings are a promotion for his wine club (which I did join, but this is not a shameless plug). I don't know which cities he's visiting, but if you follow that link I put at the top of the page you can find out more. That's all, enjoy!

I have a set of Argentine wines sitting behind me right now. In light of our recent Malbec tasting I am looking forward to it and your notes are great. You should help Anuva out and create the wines here on Snooth and add your reviews!
