I wonder if anyone been tasting around this area but recently I was on a white water rafting trip that had wine tasting built into the tour! We visited Grace Patriot wines, Lava Cap, Crystal Basin, Jack Russell Brewing, Boa Vista and Madroña.
Beautiful area with rolling hills and the grapes are thriving!
My favorites were Grace Patriot and Lava Cap.
Vitis at Grace Patriot
Grace Patriot had a pretty decent Cab, which was kind of surprising. Wonderful history behind the vineyard and family as well. Steve Grace was pouring and he was very friendly, taking time to explain the history and introducing the wines to us. Very casual tasting with a great view of their vineyard. Here is more on the tasting.
Lava Cap tasting room was rather small as you can see here, we were pretty packed. That did not spoil the tasting though. This was by far my favorite of all the wineries we visited. They make well balanced wines full of flavors, I bought their petite sirah which is one of the better ones I have tasted although i am a little biased when it comes to petite sirahs. The full tasting is here.
Share your experience if you have been there! I would love to hear other experiences of the place!

It seems like you had a pretty good time. Gold country is definitely underappreciated. I have never visited any of the wineries up there, but I am a big fan of C.G. Di Arie--good, robust red wines at very attractive prices.

Emark- we like CG Di Arie as well... they are in Plymouth, which is considered the Shenandoah Valley or Amador County area of California. There are other great wineries out there too... I would say to try to spend a day tasting in this area. I also like Terre Rouge... here is link, but keep in mind not all wineries pay to be on the site or part of the association:
