It appears that Amazon has officially begun selling wine:
"NOTE - to date, Amazon has initially launched a version of their wine sales format via their fresh.amazon.com grocery arm. All sales are limited to about seven Seattle zip codes and will require ID and presence at time of delivery. They list just shy of 600 brands right now. Keep watch of this, their brands aren't that esoteric, but I imagine they will branch out as this test case evolves..."
It will be interesting to see whats next and how this evolves...
Amazon on Wine...

I guess this means that they tossed my application for their Senior Wine Buyer position!
Interesting that they are getting only their toes wet by only selling via their Seattle-based Freshdirect delivery arm. Clearly it's going to take a lot more work to do the compliance for a 25 state direct-to-consumer roll out to properly compete with Wine.com.
I am not too familiar with WA wine law, but because the state has to act as the wholesaler, it might make things simpler for them from a product sourcing standpoint since they have a single point of contact. The fun will begin when they start buying private label wines and using their market power to bring some amazing deals to the consumer.
