"Wine Punch" on Snooth

November 2009

Mine was Ravenswood as well. At Bonnell's restaurant in Fort Worth at dinner with my dad. Neither of us had tried it, and now we are forever hooked! We were both initially taken aback and surprised by the heavy punch,...

This Malbec packs a punch. Very dark red in color. I feel a rich rush of plum and black cherry that quickly fades. A slight taste lingers.

Gouguenheim Winery Malbec 2007

Starting at $8.09 Snoothrank: 3/5

A very good syrah. it shows big red fruit with spices on the nose. flavors to match with leather finish. the finish is short and lacks the punch of the previous vintage.

Perhaps the surprise of the evening with a simply knockout array of aromatics. Classic notes of prosciutto fat, old Middle Eastern spice tones, smoke, leather, mint and minerals are all enmeshed in a precise core of...

There's a lot going on with this wine.....sort of felt like an overambitious punch to me.

Vina Maquis Lien 2005

Sangria is whatever you want it to be. Cut up some oranges, add some sugar, maybe even some orange juice, then a little brandy and a bottle of wine. If you want it more flavorful, throw in some fresh strawberries, some...

Another winner from Cardwell Hill. The 2007 doesn't pack as much of a fruit punch as the 2006, but make no mistake, this is full bodied Pinot Noir. This would pair well with salmon but I prefer it with a nice ribeye...

Cardwell Hill Pinot Noir Estate Bottled 2007

Starting at $24.95 Snoothrank: 4/5

This is one seriously dark, brooding wine. Packs a bold fruity punch immediately with dark cherry, plum and blackberry. Tar, tobacco and spice are slight and subtle and the tannins are quite strong. This is a real lip...

Talamos Syrah Cabernet Sauvignon 2002

Starting at $12.90 Snoothrank: 3.5/5

Looks like fruit punch and doesn't taste much better. I'd prefer a pabst blue ribbon.

Erath Pinot Noir Estate 2007

Starting at $17.95 Snoothrank: 3/5

Really interesting, almost "moldy" nose with tobacco overtones, giving way to honey flavors with a little punch of acidity. Long finish with fig/raisin notes. Bought a bottle to try with cheese.

Crown Valley Chardonel Late Harvest 2003

Starting at $12.00 Snoothrank: 3.5/5
