I would also throw whole berry fermentation vs crushed and natural yeast vs introduced yeast into the fermentation discussion.

Organic. Nice, ripe berry aromas with a hint of vanilla and cassis. Bright and acidic on the finish but has a fairly rich body with flavors of cherry, raisin, and a hint of mint. Very nice for such a reasonable price!

Clockspring Vineyards Zinfandel Amador County 2004

Starting at $10.79 Snoothrank: 3/5

I had my first bottle March 2008 and have had 2 since, most recently October 2009. I really like this wine. It has throw a lot of sediment and needs decanting but this is now a beautiful mature Shiraz showing an...

Rosemount Show Reserve Shiraz 2001

Starting at $18.99 Snoothrank: 3.5/5

Velvety smooth and full of soft cherries. Long-lasting finish of stone fruit and berries.

Mahler-Besse Monastrell Jumilla Taja 2006

Starting at $10.68 Snoothrank: 3.5/5

A bit reticent with it’s slightly gamy toned warm dark fruit. This grows to reveal earth, mineral and minty, floral tones that frame the jammy bitter cherry fruit. A bit relaxed across the palate this has lovely bitter...

Louis Latour Marsannay 2006

Starting at $15.99 Snoothrank: 2.5/5
November 2009

Powerful nose of cassis, blackberry, and other dark fruits with earth and oak notes as well. Medium-full body with acidity that is definitely there but not overstated. Supple berry and dark fruit flavors on the palate...

Segla Margaux 2005

Starting at $49.95 Snoothrank: 3.5/5

Wow! A big, rich, powerful full-bodied Zinfandel; very dense in color with a intoxicating nose of berry jam. I could have almost inhaled this wive as opposed to drink it. For being such a powerful red, I did not expect the...

Edmeades Mendocino Zinfandel 2000

Starting at $20.99 Snoothrank: 3/5

The 2004 Domaine Pierre Damoy Chambertin Grand Cru is one of the better, if not best, Burgundy wines I have sampled in this price range. Aged for only fours years, the wine exhibited unparalleled complex, diverse and bold...

Domaine Pierre Damoy Chambertin Grand Cru 2004

Starting at $1,954.58 Snoothrank: 4/5

Downed my first ever glass of Monte Antico Toscana at the end of a day in the field, with a supper of linguini and steamed vegetables, tossed in butter, black pepper and gratings of a robust parmesan cheese. All...

Monte Antico Toscana IGT 2006

Starting at $9.99 Snoothrank: 3.5/5

GDP is a great resource for Barbera, so I wont go there... but I can speak to Dolcetto. Im a huge fan, and its one of my favorite reds. I favor Dolcetto di Dogliani over Alba, since they are not as "sugary". They have a...
