  Johan Vineyards Pinot Noir Nils Reserve 2007

  really enjoyed this wine. not too strong on the nose but the deep blend of blackberries, cherries, and currants balances it out. smooth with a bit of spice, medium acidity. a good drawn out finish so that the taste continues to subtly linger on your taste bud's memory

  Seghesio Zinfandel Alexander Valley Home Ranch 2007

  This is my favorite Home Ranch Zinfandel yet, and that is saying something ... flavors cascade over the taste buds, and there's even a subtle lead-pencil component there for added complexity. Beautifully balanced with a seamless feel to it from start to finish. Magnificent Zinfandel

  Kathryn Kennedy Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Santa Cruz Mountains 1997

  A glass of this with Thai food awakens those hidden taste buds. Kathryn Kennedy did it again making one of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon in the region.

  Made from a blend of Lilly Hill and Belle Canyon fruit, along with grapes from ... but soft and (to my taste buds, anyway) ready to drink right now. It will be interesting to taste the single-vineyard Syrahs coming out later

Read moreyep! :), i've used that ice water in the wine glass trick, too! but man!, i ... best (i guess i got too many taste buds on my tongue). it may come off snobby, but it truly is not my intention n certainly doesn't feel that way from my perspective. naturally, it all depends upon the where you're going and the appropriate expectations for that setting. but if i'm at a nice restaurant/wine establishment where wine is a definite component of the evening at hand, and given the choice between spending in public $50 - $100+ on a bottle that often isn't even that good for $10- $20 retail, having it served at a temp of high 70's to sometimes even the low 80's, then having to play dodge-ball w/ your wineglass because yr server, meaning perfectly well, wants to top yr wine glass off every few minutes (ok, i exaggerate a bit fr effect, but at least around or past half full every 10-15 mins ;p)... OR i can spend the time and money (think of just how ridiculously good a wine you can buy nowadays for $50-$100), serve it properly at the right temp, in the appropriate glassware, with enough time to breath ahead of time, and languidly enjoy n savor it at home or at friends'. it's a no brainer for me, at least. it's that or i have to bring my own bottle everywhere i go!    (hide)

I know this for a fact because I had two listings for 1986 and 1987 Marilyn Merlots cancelled on me by ebay. And as anyone with half a taste bud knows, these are not wines you buy to drink. The bottles would have to be empty in order to sell them on ebay.    (hide)

Read moreIt looks like there is a strong, devoted group that is totally engulfed with ... cabinet. Very hot on the taste buds, killing any of the nuances that were there. For as "in your face" it was with alcohol, it had a very short finish, with little lingering aromas or tastes on the palate. Acidic, yes. Some tannins. Not much in the way of aromas left in the glass or in the empty bottle, either. Just not what I enjoy from a wine. This was purchased from a merchant who knows how to merchandise and store wine, so I don't believe this was necessarily a bad bottle. My current favorite is Layer Cake Primitivo. Full bodied, smooth on the palate, and very aromatic. Prominent anise, plum, and earthy flavors. Long finish, over 10 seconds. Good with food, very good all on it's own. This is one I really enjoy. Being able to linger with the wine for a good amount of time, all the while as it evolves and improves in the glass. I am looking for three aspects in this post. What is your favorite? Least favorite? What Primitivo best represents the class? Perhaps A-Mano is what an Italian Primitvo should taste like. Any observations from the more experienced    (hide)
