"Stone Fruits" on Snooth

GregT wrote in the forum topic: Beef Stew and ?? ($25 range)
November 2009

Yep. Depends on the stew. You can probably serve almost anything really, but if it's got prunes and apricots, that's different than mushrooms and onions. So in the first case you might go with garnacha or something...

Roast duck works well, and if you add a fruited sauce more cherries than oranges, of course. I also like pinot with pheasant and grouse, turkey and roast chicken, so poultry is generically good. Smoked fish and various...

A Morning in Houston with Drops of Golden Dew: Dotson-Cervantes Gotas de Oro It was 9:30 on a weekday morning when the door bell rang. I expected this as, the evening before, I received a call from Alphonse Dotson. He...

November 2009

I'm an Aperol fan, and first had it at the home of American friends in Germany, where .5 oz or so in a glass of prosecco was quite trendy. I love that, and have introduced lots of folks to it. It's great with Cristalino,...

October 2009

Fifth Element is a tad thin, hot and lacking some concentration on entry. The oak and tight tannins are not quite in balance even with the good fruit (perhaps a year or two of additional bottle-aging will correct this)....

Great color, and I enjoyed the black cherry and plum flavors and spicy finish. This is easy drinking and at a good price point.

Trapiche Broquel Malbec Mendoza 2006

Starting at $14.39 Snoothrank: 3.5/5

Red raspberries and cherries on the nose. A good, well integrated wine, nice fresh acidity, chocolate and some good oak.

Carlisle Syrah Russian River Valley 2007

Starting at $26.99 Snoothrank: 4/5

Slightly leathery on the nose with a sweet cherry and white pepper flavor. Musty with earthy, leathery flavors that mix with blackberry and raspberry. Good grip throughout, leading to a powerful finish.

Carlisle Syrah Russian River Valley 2007

Starting at $26.99 Snoothrank: 4/5

Ruby Red. Rich Berry, light spice. Flavors of cherry, currant, leather, smoke and earth. Has a great tangy acidity. Aeration softens the wine nicely. A manly Rioja - simps and pansies beware! From IWC, 88 points: "(95%...

Senorio de P. Pecina Rioja Joven 2007

Starting at $14.99 Snoothrank: 3/5
October 2009

Fruity on the nose with a spicy, fudgy character to the roasted plum fruit. A nice dose of oak seems to be playing in the background with vanilla and warm mulling spice tones. A bit lean with some nice mineral detail up...

Excelsior Shiraz 2007

Starting at $7.95 Snoothrank: 2.5/5
