"Stews" on Snooth

November 2009

Fantastic wine for game, stews, and specially a good steak. Definitely one of my favorites.

November 2009

Ciao Cigarman, This means that the law/wine legislation does not require that a vintage be quoted on the label. Of course you know this if you regularly buy it. Barolo Chinato is an aromatized wine - Barolo DOCG with...

Hello everyone, In Livorno, the traditional fish soup - Cacciucco - is nearly always served with red wine, even Sassicaia is often suggested... although I would steer towards a young Bolgheri red. Bolgheri is also in the...

I enjoyed this wine with a beef stew. I like the pepper spice and chewiness. The cabernet gives it structure and adds to the complexity. Fruit forward and spicy on the finish.

Penfold's Koonunga Hill Shiraz/Cab 2006

Starting at $12.99 Snoothrank: 3.5/5

Cherry berry stew on the nose, with hints of vanilla and oak. Velvety and mouthfilling. Deep, concentrated and fairly complex. Long lasting tears so I assume reasonably high in alcohol.

Main Divide Marlborough Pinot Noir 2006

Starting at $26.00 Snoothrank: 4/5

Smoky cab franc nose. Deep rich flavors of stewed plums and black and blueberries. Deep, rich and intense with a bit of Grandma's jam woven through. Very nice and for the price, a good everyday wine to try something...

McManis Family Vineyards Petite Sirah 2008

Starting at $9.99 Snoothrank: 3/5

I bought the first bottle of this at Trader Joe's--where I am often disappointed. Not this time. Less than $9, chocolaty, toasty. Good tannins. I make beef stew with cumin and the bottle just disappears. I wonder if it...

A precise recommendation really simmers down to how you sauce or otherwise prepare your stew, and the ingredients besides the beef. As well as the types of reds you like....

With all of these great recommendations, I almost didn't respond, but heck - im ... only with the heartiest of stews (Rosenblum) and 6. you can find some pretty decent Cotes du Rhone at $25 or less that pair really well...
