"sours" on Snooth

dmcker wrote in the forum topic: Airline wines getting a lot better?
November 2009

Seems the wine glut resulting from the very sour economy the past couple of years has brought better wines to first class and business class airline passengers:...

November 2009

A very earthy nose of mushrooms, wet soil and truffles. Firm acids on the attack, give way to sour cherry and raspberry flavors. The finish is taught, but offers good fruit and some nice vanilla tones from the oak.

Domaine Chandon Pinot Meunier 2007

Starting at $26.79 Snoothrank: 3/5

earthy mushrooms combined with sour red cherry aromas, light on the palate, immediate taste of sour cherries, cranberry with an earthy finish. not very complex but elegant fruit notes

Evesham Wood Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 2008

Starting at $17.50 Snoothrank: 3/5

Hate to be a spoiler on this much- acclaimed wine but i found it to be simply 'sour' and with far too much of a charred taste, would have simply liked the grapes to speak for themselves, much too ambitious

Kendall-Jackson Grand Reserve Chardonnay 2006

Starting at $14.87 Snoothrank: 3.5/5

This wine had the beautiful garnet color that a mature Nebbiolo should. On the nose, the aromas were intensely earthy with notes of violets, mushroom, moss and leather and undertones of bright sour cherry fruit. The...

This Pinot will surprise (and maybe shock!) you. It is funky and feety with some tobacco on the nose! There certainly is fruit present, but the blackberry and cherry flavors are nuanced by a sourness that is surprising....

Phillips Hill Pinot Noir, Marguerite Vineyard 2007

Starting at $40.00 Snoothrank: 3.5/5

Light red in color with a very even color all the way to center. Scents of berries and a hint of the forest floor. Sour cherries and well balanced that lingers for several minutes. Subtle yet tingly acidity that dances...

Freestone Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2006

Starting at $53.74 Snoothrank: 3.5/5

If you like a blast of fruit with a mildly sour finish, this is a fun wine. It's a bit strong for our Savignon Blanc tase buds.

Rancho Zabaco Sauvignon Blanc 2004

Starting at $13.39 Snoothrank: 3.5/5

Had this before and it was a very nice riesling. Something must have gone wrong with this bottle though, because it was grassy, tight and sour. All other times, it's been a solid, good example of Alsacean riesling.

Lucien Albrecht Riesling Reserve Alsace 2006

Starting at $15.69 Snoothrank: 3/5
November 2009

A fairly robust red, with some sourness and a bit of iron. This would probably be all right with a hearty meal, but is not too impressive on its own. The bottle I had was from 2006.

Ch Tour Ch Tour de Goupin Red

Starting at $5.99 Snoothrank: 2/5
