  This was a very well balanced wine with hibiscus flowers, peach, pineapple, and a bit of lychee. It was smooth and lingered well on the palate.

Read moreIn the whites, let me suggest Crios de Susanna Balbo Torrontes. Try for a 2005 or 2006, but any are good. My understanding of this grape is that it is a genetic mutation of the Muscat, which would explain that particular overtone in some of the bottlings. The Crios, however is a very surprizing wine. When I first opened it I got a remarkable aroma of white peaches and flowers (I remember thinking hyacinths). I expected a fruit forward sweet wine. I got a beautifully balance semi-dry with a particularly long finish for a white. Really fun wine. I would pair this with a grilled shrimp with butter sauce and a salad of spring mix and blue cheese vinagrette (for a bitter offset). Not terribly expensive either. Around $14 the last time I looked.    (hide)
