  the 2001 gran reserva was just awesome in fact... it was a birthday party given ... :(... I would love to review more wines but I don't feel too confident throwing up my tasting notes quite yet

Read moreWe'd love to review some wines from Long Island or the Hudson Valley, we're based out of Pittsburgh, so we just haven't gotten there yet :-) . Frankly, I think with the right care, Cabernet Franc can really shine for the Northeast. Cabernet Franc, if it's done well, can really be an entry wine for people in the winter. Not as forcefull as a Cali Cabernet Sauvignon, a good east coast Cabernet Franc really gives you that snowy weather, sitting in your library with your smoking jacket feeling.    (hide)

I will be posting my reviews on several in the coming days. The Sterling Cab was fantastic. All that I could have ever hoped for. Classic, classic, classic. I found some 1977 Veedercrest, Cabernet, among the cases which were a delight. This was the oldest Rutherford wine I've had, and it was nice to see the "Rutherford Dust" was right up front. Fruit was a little ripe, but still a very nice glass. I was really surprised when i found some 1975 Cuvaison Zinfandel among the bottles. I never would have thought that the wine would have lasted, and thought I have had some nicely aged vinegar on my hands, but the wine was spectacular. It might be the best bottle of 2009 for me. I posted a full review. I have 4 more which i will try and hold on to, and see if it lasts a few more years. Maybe not though. It's so good, I don;t know if I'll have the will power to hold back. Has anyone else had experience with older Zin's    (hide)

Our sober driver is a wiz at getting around NOTL - she even makes a spreadsheet (accountant) of the spots we'll visit, rating them by the type of wine (red or white) and perceived like of food being served    (hide)

  I found Snooth through an online article and, energized by a weekend visit to ... month. I hope to post my review of the 14 wineries I visited this past Saturday soon. I'll gladly admit I know little about wine - but I know what I like and hope to learn more

  Our local big liquor store chain who is generally pretty unbeatable for prices ... Would be awesome to win! I reviewed all the wines independently, but here was the lineup and a recap, using the Snooth rating system. Coastal Estates- 2008 Chardonnay- 3 glasses 2008 Napa... Read moreOur local big liquor store chain who is generally pretty unbeatable for prices ... Would be awesome to win! I reviewed all the wines independently, but here was the lineup and a recap, using the Snooth rating system. Coastal Estates- 2008 Chardonnay- 3 glasses 2008 Napa Carneros Chardonnay (not Coastal of course, but he poured the two chardonnays together)- nice banana and melon with some oak- 3.5 glasses 2008 Sauvignon Blanc- 4 glasses 2007 Riesling- super sweet, a bit too much for my taste- 2.5 glasses 2007 Pinot Noir Vin de Pays- too young tasting, like a Beaujolais Noveau- 2 glasses 2006 Merlot- Nose of currant, rhubarb and licorice. Nicely balanced eucalyptus and cherry tones- 2.5 glasses 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon- Fairly nice cab, but slightly bitter finish- 2.5 glasses Napa Valley- 2005 Merlot- Nice, but a bit tannic. VERY oakey for a merlot- 3 glasses 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon- Nice, reasonably good middle ground cab. I expected a bit more for a "Napa" designation- 3.5 glasses 2006 Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon- Velvety and smooth. My favorite cab of their lineup at this tasting- 4 glasses Reserve- 2004 Dulcet- 74% cab 26% syrah. Nice blend I'd stack against any super tuscan of the same makeup. The Dulcet is the most expensive behind the Georges de Latour- 4 glasses 2005 Tapestry- Elegant and smooth Bordeaux blend. The best wine tasted tonight. A great value at $30-$40. Wonderful.- 4.5 glasses The sales guy pouring also opened a 2007 The Prisoner by Orin Swift Cellars. I really enjoyed the 2006 so was anxious to try this one. I have one waiting to be drunk, but when someone else is pouring, you try! I found it to not excite me quite as much as the 2006 because I really liked the bold, in your face style that blend had. The 2007 is a bit more refined, smooth and relaxed, but still a great wine. 4 glasses. Obviously it all depends on each person's taste, but if you're a cab person, go after the Rutherford and if you like a claret, the Tapestry is great. Of course, if you don't mind the $100 per bottle price tag, go for the Georges de Latour. If I win, I'll review it! The one I hold presently is a 2005 and when tasted at another event, it was magnificent! Any other BV fans out here? Weigh in on your faves!    (hide)
