She is ... She is a wonderful young organic producer doing great things in the Monte Iblei area. She has recently released SP68, a Frappato and Nero D'Avola blend which combines the freshness of the Frappato varietal with the rigor of Nero. I do like the wines from Magnificent Wine Co as they represent solid value if not super quality. Great tuesday night wines. I've been doing things like this off and on over the past few years.   Clockspring Vineyards Zinfandel Amador County 2004

  Organic. Nice, ripe berry aromas with a hint of vanilla and cassis. Bright and acidic on the finish but has a fairly rich body with flavors of cherry, raisin, and a hint of mint. Very nice for such a reasonable price!

Read moreDon't be afraid to spit, if anything, I find that wineries and event organizers look at you in a more respecting light when you spit. They tend to be more informative and pay you more attention because they realize that you're not there just to drink. Even at the events that I host, I always make a mention that it's okay to spit. I'll often watch the eyes of some of the people at the table and can often tell when one of them is feeling uncomfortable about the amount of wine being poured for them. I think everyone above covered the perfume thing pretty well. Have a good time.    (hide)

As far as rationality, sometimes they do almost seem ... drier regions, but a lot of organic matter doesn't find it's way too far down. In some of the vineyards you've been to I'm sure they have grass growing between the rows. I'm sure they've done it in CdP but I can't recall who off the top, but in the Loire a few of the vineyards sliced trenches to see how the roots were growing. What they found was that in rows where they let the grass grow, the vines sent fewer roots into the inter-row space than in the vineyards where the rows were plowed. Grasses don't even penetrate that deeply but apparently they made enough of an impact that the vines didn't find it worthwhile to compete. It's increasingly used around the globe as one way of reducing the vigor of vines. It's pretty cool because it seems like relatively minor adjustments can make a big difference in the output of the vine.    (hide)
