"Mediterranean and subtropical fruits" on Snooth

November 2009

This year I got the opportunity to participate in a winery employee project. Me and a few of other employees at Loxton Cellars got half a ton of Syrah grapes to make our own wine from. We’ll do all the work and we’ll...

October 2009

A luscious yet friendly Chardonnay, fresher than a hickey on a Catholic school girl's neck on the first day of class. This Chardonnay is a true example of the style of Chardonnay for which Washington is becoming known....

Fira Chardonnay 2008

Starting at $16.00 Snoothrank: 4/5
October 2009

Color of strong black tea with a hint of red. Strong aroma of anise at first, but after a bit of breathing it started taking on a floral bouquet. Not much fruitiness, but very smooth and subdued tannins. Smokey wood flavor...

Couvent des Jacobins 1976

Starting at $20.00 Snoothrank: 3/5
October 2009

Raspberry, blueberry, and mango treats are dancing in this wine. A sweet celebration in your mouth. Some citric acid and underdeveloped tannins, and it seems to fade quickly.

Excelsior Shiraz 2007

Starting at $7.95 Snoothrank: 2.5/5

An instant almond rush on nose. In mouth, citrus fruit then distinctly floral right at the back of an extremely deep palate. Oak ageing gives a toasted nutty finish, ending with a refreshing touch of bitterness.

Full bodied red as you would expect, great on the nose with slight spicy and citrus flavours.. nice long consistant finish with every mouth full.

Medium-dark plum color at first pour, with minimal aromatics. On it's own, drinkable but not noteworthy. Light on the palate, some nice acidity. Better with cheese. Best pairing for this was a mixed baby green salad...

Altovinum Evodia Grenache 2007

Starting at $8.99 Snoothrank: 3/5

October 2009

I mulled wine over the weekend. It's a good thing to do with dry wine (if you don't like to drink dry wine) because the recipe calls for sugar and citrus, which should sweeten it up.

Very light straw color with a very tropical fruit and pear nose. Light bodies with balanced acidity and hints of a green/grass flavor. Firm, lingering aftertaste with citrus notes. Similar to a Pinot Gris with less sweetness.

Guilbaud Freres le Soleil Nantais Blanc 2005

Starting at $8.14 Snoothrank: 3/5
October 2009

Faint golder, clean appearance. Citrus and watermelon aroma on the nose and a medium bodied mouthfeel. Dry honey taste with hints of lemon and a background of oak with a subtle aftertaste. Very fresh and enjoyable but a...
