It even held up the next day (after pumping out the ... like a freshly opened jar of maraschino cherries or freshly licked red lollipop. The taste is velvety soft, and a little smokey-spice lightly scratching the back of your throat, like someone lightly brushing their finger nails against your skin. As the wine settles on your palate and the aroma makes its way into your nasal cavity, a blast of sweet strawberry syrup with a faint whisper of plum jam. This is SUCH a fun wine!!    (hide)

  Fruit forward with prominent maraschino cherry. Spicy toasted aromas create a complex and intense bouquet. Silky soft wiht pleasant tannins. Lingering length and finish. Still extremely vibrant in 2009 tasting

  Chateau Moyau Rose 2007

  Nice deep bronzed cherry hue. Sweet Maraschino cherry flavors with some watermelon flavors on the backend. This is a classic rose that finishes on melon and strawberry flavors. Would work well with quiche, or moules frites on a hot summers day

  Archetype Vineyards Shiraz 2006

  Snoothrank:

  Nose: Lavender, flowery bouquet, cherry syrup Notes: Maraschino cherries, a little lime, plum, honey-suckle. Somewhat one-dimensional. Falls off a table after the mid-palate, no smooth transition. Well-made with high delicious factor. Pair With: Tapas, grilled tuna.

  Brooks Pinot Noir Rastaban 2006

  Snoothrank:

  yummy oregon fruit-bomb. smooth and "cloudy" with dominant maraschino cherries. very well integrated tannins with 10 year aging potential. would get a perfect score if it wasn't so expensive. but at 129 cases produced, you can't blame the high price.

I came up with that independently, but apparently Heaven's Dog in SF (http://heavensdog.com/ ) is calling roughly the same thing the Upward Dog (yes, it really is That yoga reference; cf, http://cocktailnerd.com/?p=1924 ). As for this whole Snooth and cocktails thing, have a glance over http://www.snooth.com/talk/topic/tales-of-the-cocktail-2009/ and see if that further piques your interest. Given Snooth's premise (and what I know about startups and the penetration of cocktails' popularity), I'm not sure that it's yet time for more than this subdivision of the discussion forums and the several liquor listings (ratings and reviews), but I have a feeling that your continued interest and patience may be rewarded. It would be a non-trivial design expansion to step outside of wine, but not one that, so far as I know, has been ignored conceptually    (hide)

That said, starting with the maraschino, and given your tasting response above, you should definitely try out the Last Word (equal parts: gin, lime juice, maraschino, and green Chartreuse; I must have posted a more detailed recipe here previously) and its several variations (I like to swap Domaine de Canton for the Chartreuse, it is traditional to swap rye for the gin, let me know here if you'd like further suggestions, but please do play around on your own)    (hide)
