"inky" on Snooth

November 2009

Wow! What a difference some time in the cellar makes. I opened one of my 3 ... looking wine with an inky purple color and full bodied with well-integrated tannins and mouth watering acidity on the front and mid palette...

Haan Merlot Prestige 2001

Starting at $54.99 Snoothrank: 4/5

Got this wine because it won double gold at the California State Fair. I wasn't ... disappointed. Has that inky Rhone color and the flavors back it up. Fruit is jammy plum, blackberry with some earthiness. The Petite...

November 2009

Am curious to try more wines from Mallorca, Greg. Any you can recommend? And yes, red wine with octopus was something I forgot to include in my list at top as one of my favorites. Perhaps I've been feeling guilty about...

Some good food you're talking about, vks! Even if I don't like the taste of gin, I do like juniper berries in sauces dressing game. The smoked duck breast sounds like it'd be a good match, even if there's no shop where I...

November 2009

Some of my favorites Laughing Maggpie- D'Arenberg shiraz viognier, Leaping Lizzard- Margeret river Cab, Squid Ink -The...

Inky, fruit forward, berry and a slight chocolate tone. No special nuances to this selection, but worth the $10 I spent on it. I would call it a very good picnic wine or a wine to drink out on the back patio with a friend.

Purple Cowboy Tenacious Red 2006

Starting at $11.99 Snoothrank: 3/5

Dark and inky with a slight brown edge. Initial hit of berries followed by mint and wood aromas. Big with lots of tannin right away but after some time decanting rounded out with a nice raisin and dark berry flavor....

Ramey Cabernet Sauvignon Annum 2006

Starting at $153.64 Snoothrank: 3.5/5
October 2009

Very deep ruby color - almost inky. Nose is quite nice, with spicy aromas with underlying cherry and stone fruit. Was far better the second day and really opened up nicely, which would suggest decanting is in order. Pair...

Brazin Zinfandel Old Vines 2007

Starting at $15.59 Snoothrank: 3.5/5

With a powerful blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, ... monster. An opaque, inky purple core fades ever so slightly to a bright ruby rim. Poignant and profound aromas of crushed black fruit,...

Pahlmeyer Proprietary Red Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

Starting at $144.00 Snoothrank: 3.5/5

What a wonderful surprise from Livermore. Uncorking the wine filled my nose ... the glass the wine is a very inky dark purple. Swirling and sniffing revealed gobs of dark fruit with hints of bell pepper and green olives....

Mitchell Katz at Ruby Hill Fat Boy Red Wine 2005

Starting at $35.00 Snoothrank: 3.5/5
