Read moreA friend of mine has been in a contentious lawsuit for years with a former member of our circle of friends. It was an ugly time watching two former close friends duke it out in court. Yesterday the suit was settled, out of court. There was a cash settlement and a whole lot of celebration. Impromptu party ensued at my home (I have the largest cellar...logical yes?), and the fun began. We call it "Going Viking" when a friend goes down to the cellar to choose WHATEVER he would like to open. There are no rules, or second thoughts, or worries about cost of the wine. It seldom happens but when it does...it is celebrating an occasion. You rarely have the opportunity to do this, and you know what goes around, comes around. Your turn to be "plundered" by your friends will come....and your cellar will not be safe...... So...last night we drank.......till 4:30 am..... 2000 Phelps Insignia - Drinking beautifully! 2001 Larkmead "Solari Reserve" - Opened nicely - still needs some cellar time 1998 Beaucastel CDP - Simply Fab 1999 Chapoutier Hermitage - BEAUTIFUL 2001 Sabastiani "Cherryblock" Cabernet - Delicious Has plenty of life left in the cellar 1997 Tommasi Amerone - What a year....Wish I bought more. 1992 Dunn Howell Mountain Cab - 97 points were earned 2002 Hewitson's "Mad Hatter" Shiraz Developing nicely! Does anyone else have a similar term for friends running rampant through your cellar? Would love to know other terms for the same type of occasional binge..... Cheers! Gerry aka WineGent    (hide)
