At least now, they may have to pay homage to efficiency and reasonable prices. The one good thing about the brutal recession in California is that the 75 dollar wine just might become the 25 dollar wine of the next decade. So your 26 dollar range might just get a long lease on life HondaJohn! This may also lend some insight into the drop in mean price for the top 10..    (hide)

  Staying in NZ, then, maybe a good NZ pinot noir might be worth putting aside ... place of botrytis infected fruit, and some cheaper Sauternes do this. This doesn't give as good a wine as that produced from botrytis infected fruit, but it is of course much cheaper to do

Wonderful bright fruit with an almost lambrusco-like zing. Some citrus tones on the finish. Not a long lasting wine. Read moreThere's an argentinean wine called Oroya, developed specially to go with sushi ... it's a blend of Torrontes (fruity and floral white grape) and Pinot Noir. They make an interesting blend of a blanc de blanc and a blanc de noir. The first grape's fruityness and the firmness of the P.Noir give it a good equilibrium between the sweet and sour flavors of fish and it tastes wonderful even with wasabe.    (hide)

As For Thanksgiving I am providing 4 bottles Schlinkhaus Riesling Kabinett 2007 (My Mom and Dad's "house" wine), Debouf Beaujolais Nouveau 2009, Rivers Edge Pinot Noir 2006, and Terradorro Falanghina 2007... I think the Falanghina goes pretty well with Turkey, and is veggie friendly (Green bean, Sweet Potato, corn, carrots)    (hide)

Read moreGaragiste is an amazing source, and they will definitely expand your wine ... syrah, and cab. All are big fruit and big flavor without the normal high alcohol. Also, had a blind tasting the other day, and the winner of the night was one of the least expensive bottles, a 2006 shoofly shiraz. It was really big with plum, berries, jam, pepper, spice, and nice powerful dark notes that sat on your palate and provided something to "chew over" after swallowing.    (hide)

I think most of the producers I have listed above are making it for the right reasons. The more premium ones listed... I think most of the producers I have listed above are making it for the right reasons. The more premium ones listed above are the Rockford Black, the Seppelt Show Reserve, E & E, Black Queen, Primo Estate's Joseph, and the Leasingham Classic. The Seppelt Silverband, Anderson, and Majella would fill out the middle ground, and most of the others, I'd regard as more affordable, but not necessarily lesser quality    (hide)

  Thank you all so much for the suggestions. I will keep my eye out some of them. ... don't like that herb and fruit in a wine and I prefer the CF to have those nice leather, cedar, vanilla, tobacco notes--that's what I love about it

  Inky dark purple in color and rich with the blackberry and cassis flavors that ... is part of a co-op. He buys fruit from nearly a dozen of the most reputable sources across California. I love drinking his wines alone or pairing with seasonal dishes
