  I have not read this entire thread so I may be repeating what someone has ... real deal. Pairs absolutely fantastic with a cigar, especially the nub! The wine costs about $16 and is worth the money. I’ve had some other wines from M. Cosentino but they were not as good.

Collectors and counterfeiters alike have made a mint on the hefty sums this particular brand and year can command. In Hong Kong, a bottle goes for anywhere between HK$37,000 and HK$48,000. People in the wine business here say there is more ’82 Lafite in China than was ever produced that year in France." As far as the Lafite and other first growth Bordeaux goes, I know that Sotheby's hosted a two-part single seller auction in both NY and Hong Kong for Aubrey McClendon ( http://blogs.wsj.com/wealth/2009/02/03/is-aubrey-mcclendon-selling-off-his-prized-wine/ )- so by process of elimination we know it wasn't him. There is another big buyer of DRC that I've heard a lot about, who I believe works exclusively through Acker Merrall & Condit on the "selling" side. He's now being sued by the notorious "Provenence-Hungry Snooth of the Millenium" William Koch: (From the NYT: "the billionaire wine collector William I. Koch has filed suit in Los Angeles against another wealthy collector, Rudy Kurniawan, accusing him of selling fraudulent bottles through the auction house Acker Merrall & Condit.) There are some halfway decent wineries scattered throughout North NJ, but I have taken a few trips down to Cape May county - and they are doing some really interesting things down there. I hope they soon master get some recognition because they certainly have plenty of land to expand if it all works out.    (hide)

The Sterling Cab was fantastic. All that I could have ever hoped for. Classic, classic, classic. I found some 1977 Veedercrest, Cabernet, among the cases which were a delight. This was the oldest Rutherford wine I've had, and it was nice to see the "Rutherford Dust" was right up front. Fruit was a little ripe, but still a very nice glass. I was really surprised when i found some 1975 Cuvaison Zinfandel among the bottles. I never would have thought that the wine would have lasted, and thought I have had some nicely aged vinegar on my hands, but the wine was spectacular. It might be the best bottle of 2009 for me. I posted a full review. I have 4 more which i will try and hold on to, and see if it lasts a few more years. Maybe not though. It's so good, I don;t know if I'll have the will power to hold back. Has anyone else had experience with older Zin's    (hide)

I don't think that I will continue that journey...after two dates the 'click' just isn't there and I don't feel that it is going to develop....oh well :)))) Thanks to your help, the tasting did go well as I followed your advice....had a meal before going; no perfume; drank a lot of water; tasted very small amounts, utilizing the dump receptacle and just had a good time!!!   Thanks. I'm not familiar with that importer, but will look into it. I had my ... not long ago and it was fantastic. Seems like 2001 and 2004 are pretty safe plays for the northern Italian varietals, at least in my limited experience to date. Cheer

  Rose, the drier the better! Most go fantastic with everything on a thanksgiving table. Viognier also goes well, although some tend to overpower with their perfumy nose.

  I would love to offer some suggestions. Can I ask where you are? What are your ... wines under $150 with a fantastic combination of elegance, finesse and power. Of course if you don't like Syrah that's a terrible choice.
