November 2009

We took our honeymoon (bike trip) through the Finger Lakes, and have had a number of trips to the wineries in the past. The best wines made in the Finger Lakes are Riesling and Gewurzrtraminer. The latter are generally...

November 2009

Had a fair batch of sparkling this past Saturday night--four bottles of two different bubblies (one champers and one New World) between three of us together with some simple, light hors d'oevres. All that wine seemed to...

It went great, I was just going to wait till I had a moment to collect my thoughts on the subject. THese best part about this group is that everyone in really into experimenting. You'd be amazed by how many different...

Good value at $16 CDN. My preference is to aerate or rest this wine before serving. Complex nose with a deep fruity flavor with a short finish. Great party wine and matches well with a grilled beef tenderloin.

Richard Hamilton Cabernet Sauvignon Hut Block 2005

Starting at $10.65 Snoothrank: 3/5

Mildly aromatic but well balanced, low acidity with a moderate buttery finish. Dark cherry flavor with a hint of spice. Good value @ $27 CDN.

Single vineyard- "French Camp" in Paso Robles. The wines are picked very ripe, fairly late into the season. Unfined and unfiltered. Black and green olive profile- Smells wild, brambly with a slight hint of barnyard (like...

Caparone Cabernet Sauvignon 2004

Starting at $17.99 Snoothrank: 3.5/5

I was hit with citrus pineapple melon fruits. Some earthy notes but delicate light and crisp. This night I enjoyed it with a lobster sushi roll.

Brander Santa Ynez Sauvignon Blanc 2007

Starting at $14.99 Snoothrank: 3/5

I wish all cali chardonnay was made like this. Small kiss of vanilla oak with a touch of light bubbles. Well balanced and lighter bodied than expected with surprising soft acidity. Great sipper. Not really a food wine,...

Rodney Strong Chardonnay Sonoma 2008

Starting at $10.99 Snoothrank: 4/5
November 2009

Wow! What a difference some time in the cellar makes. I opened one of my 3 bottles of the 2001 Haan Merlot Prestige about 2 years ago. For all the good reviews it was very closed and not at all the complex fruit bomb I...
