Generally I enjoy a nice dark chocolate along with a cab, merlot or even a nice burgundian style pinot noir. However, tonight I was already sipping on my Robert Young Alexander Valley chardonnay which has a big toasty oak...

Andrzej Lipinski: One of Canada's Pioneering Winemakers One question that ... and a palate of raisin, chocolate, black cherry and plum, with a luxurious, rich mouthfeel. Most importantly, it was a wine which left me...

Red raspberries and cherries on the nose. A good, well integrated wine, nice fresh acidity, chocolate and some good oak.

Carlisle Syrah Russian River Valley 2007

Starting at $26.99 Snoothrank: 4/5

Dark fruit nose with a little bit of clay and earth. The flavors are tart, full of chocolate and ripe raspberry, juicy and thick, with good spice and acidity. A fresh and approachable wine with some drying tannins.

Lionheart Wines Syrah Dry Creek Valley 2007

Starting at $43.00 Snoothrank: 3.5/5

Lionheart Wines Syrah Dry Creek Valley 2007

Starting at $43.00 Snoothrank: 3.5/5

Sweet chocolatey blackcurrant fruit freshened with a hint of crisp green veg and light mouthfeel. A whisper of liquorice on the finish.

Inky, fruit forward, berry and a slight chocolate tone. No special nuances to this selection, but worth the $10 I spent on it. I would call it a very good picnic wine or a wine to drink out on the back patio with a friend.

Purple Cowboy Tenacious Red 2006

Starting at $11.99 Snoothrank: 3/5

I just don't appreciate Shiraz the way I do some other wines. This one is full ... of tasty sweet things like chocolate and jams. As a sipping wine it is just too much before a meal, but not necessarily during or after....

Layer Cake Shiraz 2008

Deep ruby color. Wonderful aromas of strawberries with hints of coffee and pipe ... plum, and sour cherry and chocolate. Very well balanced flavor and acidity
