Soiree Wine Decanter nv
Snoothrank:
Starting at $19.99 Effective and fun to pour with. Gentle aeration that is immediately apparent. Opens young reds. Easier to use than a hand held aerator and actually is blown glass. http://enobytes.org/wine_blog/2009/08/04/wine-accessories-aerator-shoot-out/ Read more

Blaauwklippen Zinfandel 2005
Snoothrank:
I shipped 12 bottles from South Africa during a recent visit where I tasted and loved this. I wanted to bring it back to the US to compare with some California zinfandels. This is only one of very few select wineries actually making zinfandels in South Africa, yet the climate is... Read more

Griffin's Lair 2006
Snoothrank:
A bit dull in appearance and oddly, in addition to the ripe red fruit, I found some fresh dough as well. Some spice and tangy acidity, I found this to be just a bit too tight. Needs a bit more aeration to appreciate or, ideally, more time in the bottle. Like five years or so.

Bolla Chianti 2006
Snoothrank:
Let me sum it up this way -- I've had better "2 buck chuck". It's possible that ... that I would do better to aerate this leathery red for at least an hour. Be forewarned, if you do not decant the consequence is tannin overload

Tonight I used one of these glasses for the first time - I'd never seen ... dent in the glass helps to aerate the wine when you swirl it. Has anyone heard of this company or these types of glasses? http://tasteofpurple.com/glassware.php?osCsid=# (The glass I tried was the VINO2... Read more

That's a great point: Something like the Vinturi can be used to aerate a wine rather than having to decant the whole bottle. One glass through the Vinturi, one not, and the difference can really be noted. We've used the Vinturi with some of the examples that I pour at work- but not... Read more

Ocean - I think about the Chemistry quite a lot, and basically my take is this: ... you can vigorously decant or aerate it. As for the Cali Zin - not long, i often just pour two glasses and let them sit for 20 minutes and then allow the space in the bottle to aerate the wine, but... Read more
