For reds: Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon as long as they are ten years old or more. I have some older Barolo I have yet to try, but what I've had in the past I have liked. So add Nebbiolo to the list. And Sangiovese,...

November 2009

This year I got the opportunity to participate in a winery employee project. Me and a few of other employees at Loxton Cellars got half a ton of Syrah grapes to make our own wine from. We’ll do all the work and we’ll...

November 2009

Remembered a couple of things after posting the last. One was how many times I've had decent roses in Switzerland. Look for what's called Oeil-de-Perdrix (eye of the partridge, for the shade of pink of a partridge's eye as...

Your Message... Too much acidity. I don't normally do this but I will toss the rest of this bottle.

Red raspberries and cherries on the nose. A good, well integrated wine, nice fresh acidity, chocolate and some good oak.

Carlisle Syrah Russian River Valley 2007

Starting at $26.99 Snoothrank: 4/5

Sweet zinny nose. Medium bodied grainy fruit with an acidity that peaks and fades quickly. Enjoyable.

Shoestring Vineyard & Winery Syrah 2005

Starting at $99.99 Snoothrank: 2.5/5

Dark fruit nose with a little bit of clay and earth. The flavors are tart, full of chocolate and ripe raspberry, juicy and thick, with good spice and acidity. A fresh and approachable wine with some drying tannins.

Lionheart Wines Syrah Dry Creek Valley 2007

Starting at $43.00 Snoothrank: 3.5/5

Ruby Red. Rich Berry, light spice. Flavors of cherry, currant, leather, smoke and earth. Has a great tangy acidity. Aeration softens the wine nicely. A manly Rioja - simps and pansies beware! From IWC, 88 points: "(95%...

Senorio de P. Pecina Rioja Joven 2007

Starting at $14.99 Snoothrank: 3/5

Raspberries and clay aromas have some weight but dissipate rather quickly. ... Flavors have a bit of an acidic edge, and are mostly of ripe, ripe raspberries. Very light on the tannin with a touch of cocoa and olive notes

Shoestring Vineyard & Winery Syrah 2005

Starting at $99.99 Snoothrank: 2.5/5
