Wine Exchange was originally established in Orange, California in 1982 under our previous name, Liquor Exchange. In 1990 we officially changed our name to Wine Exchange, more properly reflecting our wine orientation. Since the beginning our philosophy has been to diligently select the world's finest wines and operate as efficiently as we can, allowing us the opportunity to operate on a much lower margin than our competition. In fact, Wine Exchange was one of the first wine stores in Southern California to adopt a discount format for selling fine wine. The concept was to buy large quantities of wine, taking advantage of discounts available, and pass those savings onto the consumer without abandoning our commitment to service and selection. Wine Exchange has a multi-page newsletter we call the Stock Report (such as it is), typically 48-64 pages full of original information that has been published every month since February, 1985. We run a wine tasting program based on subjects which we create ourselves Read more »

  • Winex is a fantastic wine store. Their team is enthusiastic and knowledgable, their palates and noses are good to excellent (they select great wines, consistently), yet their prices are excellent, I've never had a bad bottle of wine sold to me. To my knowledge Winex was the first store in the area to adopt the Napa Technology preservation mach...

  • I just read this exchange.  "Hit the road like ME and PBoss do".....You don't go to wineries OT, you just drive by on your way to a real job.  My opinion of bloggers, and this is a huge generalization, is that they are somewhat narcissistic attention-seekers.  I've read many blogs about many topics and I am often left irritated by self-centeredn... • After graduating from medical school and before beginning indentured service as a resident physician, my wife and I decided we should make a trip out to California wine country and Yosemite. So, a week after moving to my new residency location, we pawned off the two year old on the grandparents and headed for the hills of California. We arrived i... Read More

  • EMark, you're right.  Shipping to Seattle works because I recently got a couple from WineBid and picked them up the other weekend.  My problem is I can't afford to buy a case of anything!  If I were single, that would be different!  My meager wine purchasing and my wife's $140 hair-jobs are points of contention in our house.   The US/Can exchang... • The blog post is several years old and out of date.Research shows that screwcapped wines go into a reductive state, as opposed to oxidative, because the cap creates a much tighter seal than for natural cork.Substandard grammar issues aside, WHAT "research"?What happens is that every cork is different. Cork is not a manufactured product. So you g... Read More

  • Dmcker,.. the wine was from Napa, and it had a cork.  I know, it doesn't fit the article profile, but it was one of the best articles I came upon to explain my issue,  Albiet, it was na distributed wine, which I usually shy away from as a group.  However, I have had this wine in the past and it was decent.  I was able to exchange today for only ... • I had the misfortune of opening a bottle of Sauv Blanc that smelled like- well, to put it bluntly- rotten eggs and poop.  Horrible.   This is a new fault find for me, normally being of the cork taint predilection.  So, off to research I go.  I found the article below.  I am interested in hearing what you think about my specific issue and the art... • Yes GT, currently the exchange rate is actually in favour of most currencies as the Government bring in an unpopular budget to reduce the deficit. However I doubt that your local wine shop will reduce the price of Grange. You are more likely to see it in one of those "critter" wines.I think that the premise that Bordeaux en primeur price is alwa... Read More

  • Yeah but WO, aren't the prices of HOG and Grange partly due to the Australian exchange rate? Why do you think the Bordeaux wines will depreciate, especially from those years? Seems like that bubble has only burst because Bordeaux hasn't had a vintage of the century for a couple years but they're about due. What's not factored into many plans is th... Read More

  • Let me start by saying I pretty much drink chardonnay from France or California. If it's 90% butter and little else, I'm out. If it tastes like lemon juice and weeds, I'm also out. If California, I'm looking for nicely developed fruit profile without so much oak that it taste like I'm sucking on a tree. I like Peter Michael chardonnay ***a lot**... Read More

  • California "Old Vine" wines, Zinfandel, especially, have been getting a lot of attention in the last few years.  I, certainly, have been paying more attention to them, lately, mostly as a result of the postings of Outthere on some of the historic vineyards in his neck of the woods.  He interested me enough to join the Historic Vineyard Society, ...
