  • Le Grand Bouqueteau Chinon 2012

    Snoothrank:

I bought this bottle of wine from a shop, also called 'Le Grand Bouqueteau ' next to the car park by the entrance to Chinon castle when I visited at the end of May 2014. Chinon is an AOC created in 1937,although wine production in the area goes back centuries, for mainly red and rose wines made from the cabernet franc grape, known in the area a... Read More

  • Chateau Segur du Cros 1996

    Snoothrank:

I bought this bottle of wine from a wine merchant in Sussex for £10. The Loupiac AOC was created in 1936 and is located about 20 miles south of the City of Bordeaux on the right or east bank of the River Garonne opposite Graves and Sauternes on the west bank. The wines are very similar to the more prestigious and expensive Sauternes and are harv... Read More

  • Quinta de San Francisco 2010

    Snoothrank:

Don't let the price in euros fool you... this is not an 8 dollar wine. Following a stroll along the ramparts of Obidos Castle in Portugal (one of my decadent excursions to Europe), I chose this local wine of modest pretenses as an evening tipple. Opaque and full of coffee and cherry on the nose, this rich, smooth wine just hints of Ginja - the ... Read More

  • I am loving how we are getting to know some of our favorite wine writers in this series of profiles. So far we’ve “met” Ben Carter and Clifford Brown and it’s really been very interesting learning more about these folks. We “know” them from their wine recommendations, social media posts and from their participation in our online events but we re... Read More

  • If I was going to spend the money to go on a wine vacation I would plan on drinking something I can't already buy on the grocery store shelf. Big oaky wines are $7 a bottle. There, I said it.Depends on your budget. $25 tasting room visits can get kinda boring and repetitive. You can visit places where it's just you and the winemaker or you and t... Read More

  • Hello all! This forum and website has been very helpful to me since I found it last year, I'm glad to finally join. I will be taking my first trip to Napa in June for my birthday with a couple of friends! I will be looking for unique and/or big, oaky red and white wines on a budget. We will be staying at the Old World Inn, and tentatively have vi... Read More

  • We’ve been doing it all wrong. That’s not surprising now is it? Well, what may be surprising is that researchers at Reykjavík’s School of oenology have discovered why the Nordic countries enjoy wine so much. They simply are better at it! While I’m sure the powers that be would love to find their genetics were responsible for such an advantage, t... Read More

  • Well we are back from the Glen Ellen/Kenwood trip. We found a few wines we liked, and enjoyed exploring the area. Since I am a big pinot person, especially RRV or sonoma coast, I knew I wasn't necessarily in the heart of that area of Sonoma,  But since it had been so long since I visited this area, we decided to give it a go.We stopped first in ... • Hi there Emark,I'm a big fan of Zin's and Pinot Noir. But I have to say right now, I"m into a Cab Sav from Josh winery. I like a fruit forward red. Not big on heavy oak or high tannin wines. A Pinot I like is from Castle Rock and a new Pinot I just tried and liked is from Bridlewood. I also enjoy Italian Red's like a good Sangiovese. As for White...
