  • Port is a category of wine that conjures up different images depending on your experience or taste. The styles and methodologies used to produce, and in particular, age Port are also pretty wide ranging. There are two kinds of Port that are more commonly known and leap to the forefront of people’s brains more often than others. One is Tawny Port... Read More

  • Greg, great post from earlier this month, which I somehow missed until now. You had me spewing my Corsican red twice while reading it. Not that puking in the streets only comes from oldskool salad-dressing Chianti, of course....Lindemen, nice imagery regarding Santa's wine-delivery finesse. Wines don't have to be that old, unfortunately, to be e... Read More

  • If it's never been opened then resealed you've lost an awful lot of juice from evaporation over the years. NOT a good sign. Plus it was never an expensive wine in the first place, nor one built to last 50 years. It will be thin and weak, perhaps tasting like thinned and and very weak vinegar. Though with the color as it is I wonder if the bottle... Read More

  • Barolo is the “King” of Italian wines. Its crown, however, has changed during the past 50 years or so. Italy’s wine laws went into effect in the mid-1960’s. At that time Barolo was a DOC wine. There were 3 categories: DOC Regular (Normale), DOC Riserva, and DOC Riserva Speciale. Two years of aging in cask and 13% alcohol was required by all thre... Read More

  • Emark - nice wines. Monbazillac isn't a region to be sneezed at. It's not as famous as Sauternes, but Sauternes is by no means the best sweet wine from France. Actually, I suppose in a sense it is because of all the money that's been invested over the last forty years, but France has a lot of places that make good sweet wine that never got that ... • Flash sales are one way to buy stuff cheaply, if you know what you're looking at and not getting sucked in to buy stuff of marginal cheapness and possibly styles you won't like.Buying library wines is also a way to buy lower than market, in a sense, though we're usually talking about special bottles here, more than daily drinkers. Even famous wi... Read More

  • It may seem foolish but if I don’t have a glass of wine, or two, with my dinner then I can never enjoy whatever it is I’m eating. It can be the most amazing, top class gourmet meal but without a glass of wine it may as well be cardboard. And if I happen to be eating cardboard, so long as I have a glass of wine, I may just enjoy whatever it is th... Read More
