After years of running a successful contemporary art gallery, Stefano Campanini couldn't shake the feeling that something was missing. While many people enjoy contemporary art, even more people enjoy drinking wine while looking at art or drinking wine while looking at wine. Through this realization and with the aid of other enophiles with wine-business savvy, Stefano merged his passions for art and wine under the moniker Wine by the Bay, located downtown.

“I am looking forward to offering something that everyone enjoys and in an environment where the art can be appreciated by many and in an unintimidating way," Campanini says of the new, modern, 1,200-square-foot fine-wine and art boutique with terrace views of Biscayne Bay and a steady rotation of exhibitions. "At art openings, wine is like a sideshow, but now, it will take center stage."

  • I have had a general dislike for syrahs for several years now... they just seem too BIG for me, and my tastes have changed toward lighter-style wines.  However I have discovered that there are some syrahs that I very much enjoy..  Recently, I was on my way up to Russian River.  I stopped in at Taft Street Winery in Sebastopol, www.taftstreetwine... • For those of you fortunate enough to have a partner-in-wine, storing leftover wine may not be an issue, since a 750ml bottle divides nicely between two people. For those of you drinking solo, on the other hand, the 750ml bottle format presents a nagging problem of preserving leftover wine, especially if you want to sample and compare different b... • Watching stage one today, I saw an ad for a "virtual" TdF.  Wasn't paying a lot of attention but I guess it's one of those things where you put your bike up on rollers and watch video or something. Kind of silly when the weather is as good as it has been here in the Bay Area. But the bigger reason my mind wandered was I remembered someone who dra... Read More

  • The cork vs. screwcap as a wine bottle closure argument/discussion has been done more than once on these pages.  My point here is to encourage some discussion around the merits (or lack-there-of) of arguments in favor of cork as an ethical choice, similar to choosing organic wines, etc.The journalof the Ecological Society Of America published th... • I've been powering through wines from Spain, South Africa, and Chile. I've got say that of all of them the Carmeneres ahve been the most surpring.
