  • Château Ampélia Red Bordeaux Blend Côtes de Castillon 2005

    Snoothrank:

Last night I opened this bottle with a good friend and enjoyed it, but did not just love it like I hoped I would. If memory serves this was recommened to me at Total Wine. I have been drinking a lot of Rhone Valley reds and this was a nice one, but not the best (I think Beaucastel was). This wine does have a nice dark or ruby red color to it and v... Read More

  • Heartland Wines Stickleback Red 2007

    Snoothrank:

Very affordable wine. Did a tasting with this and several other, more expensive, wines. Stickleback was the overall favorite. Good wine for a great price. Read More

  • I was joined recently by some fellow winelovers to share a mixed case of Tempranillo. There were only a few clunkers in the case, and a corked wine from Truchard that has since been replaced and is really a wonderfully complete and compelling bottle but we have to skip that for this tasting panel. In all we were left with 10 bottles for this se... Read More

  • Bodegas Palacio "Cosme Palacio Rioja" 2007

    Snoothrank:

A ton of VA greets the nose followed by stale RC cola, bacon and a touch of fudgy oxidation. There is a subtle note of TCA lurking here with nice mace tones helping to conceal it. In the mouth this is heavy with great acids, crisp tannins and VA helping to keep things lively. I get a bit of TCA on the palate as well but the juicy pruny/dried ch... Read More

  • One of the advantages of setting up a vertical w/ lesser chateau is that it is easier to incorporate the best vintages, as opposed to going the route of tasting top chateau from less than ideal years. Grand Puy Lacoste and Pontet Canet will never get the top billing of the famous firsts or super seconds in their storied commune, but theyre formi... Read More

  • Bodegas Y Viñedos del Contino Tempranillo Blend Rioja Contino Reserva 1974

    Snoothrank:

Wonderfully perfumed and floral on the nose with a gamy, white pepper edge and cranberry fruit. In the mouth this is relaxed and quite resolved with a dried out character. There is some nice bitter fruit but the wine is more about structure than flavor in the mouth, very leathery and dry as well as clumsy feeling. 85pts. Read More

  • Hello all. I am a young 26 year old banker that is really starting to get into wine.I have been drinking for a few years, but with recent membership to a great social club in my hometown of Greenville, SC the amount and knowledge of drinking great wine is going to a new level.I am fortunate for my membership to this club with a great educator, a... • Jean-Charles de Salinières Savigny-Lès-Beaune Premier Cru les Vergelesses 2006

    Snoothrank:

I opened this in honour of Open That Bottle Night 2009 (and in honour of a nice dinner in good company). It's one of the few things in my fridge I have more than one of, so it wasn't too much of a wrench to pop the cork, even though it's probably a little young yet to show at its best. It's one of a mixed case I bought from this producer after ta...
