  • After my earlier article reviewing 10 common wine questions, I received a ton of e-mails asking several follow-up questions. Some were a little too silly to spend time pondering, but many of you came up with some questions worth asking, and answering. Many of my answers here are necessarily brief; either because the subject matter has been cover... Read More

  • So here's a little project I've been kicking around to no end.The idea is simple, what are the top 10 wines in any region that remain affordable and really deliver exceptional experiences?I know there are so many varaibles here but a list of 10 is large enough to account for the variables. So let me start by defining affordable. I would say, in t... Read More

  • El Supremo Cab-Sauvignon 2008

    Snoothrank:

The 2008 El Supremo Cabernet is simply put....fantastic! You will be hard pressed to find a better cabernet for $10. And it's even better than a lot of the more expensive cabs I've had! Alcohol % is good at 13.5% which is reflected in the taste. Lots of $10 cabs reflect their price with an acidic cheap alocohol finish that can burn. The El Supre... Read More

  • Well I didn't take many notes but had an especially nice bottle of 1997 La Pergole Torte, a notorious underperforming vintage, as well as a breathtaking, if infantile 2006 Allemand Cornas Chaillots. Anybody else have anything memorable?   Read More

  • I 'inherited' a bottle of Clos Du Marquis, Saint Julien 1984 (See my profile pic for the image of the label).  I am trying to find some information about it.  I have seen this wine from the 1988 vintage, but never the 1984.  Can anyone tell me about this wine?  I know its a second label, etc.  Is it even worth drinking at this point?  Thank You!! • While much of California’s fame is due to varietal wine, or at least wines that are labeled with a single varietal, there has always been a strong tradition of creating blended wines from the variety of vineyards and grapes that thrive in California. From the original field blends planted by immigrating Italians to the creation of the Meritage ... Read More

  • Mettler Family Vineyards Zinfandel Lodi Old Vine Zinfandel Epicenter Mettler Family Vineyards 2008

    Snoothrank:

An exceptional Zin for the price. I bought this on the recommendation of a local wine store and cafe... and then just keep buying more. At $21 I have found nothing that comes close to it for the price. Read More

  • Bodegas Valduero Ribera del Duero Crianza 2001

    Snoothrank:

My rating : 87. This wine comes across like a Bordeaux St. Julian. With pungent long nose and the taste of a not very selective picking of the wine. With time in the glass the impression improved. The first taste was more like an 84. The price is much to high for the quality. Read More
