  • Zuf, I do drink S. Rhones, had a CdP this week that was comparatively reasonable--2010 Domaine La Roquete.  Third vintage of the wine I've had.  It was fine, but not at the level of the N. Rhones that I like. Dunc, I can find St. Jo and Croze and they are fine, but not, generally, as breathtaking. That said, last night we opened the second of th... Read More

  • Do you have a Total Wine near you?  They might be able to get some good Washington wine, but my suspicion is NOT.  I can tell you some things to look out for.  Tamarack Cellars, Kiona, L'Ecole 41, are some that have affordable cabs that are killer.  Oh, Lucha Vino lives in Washington (although he's been scarce on the forum lately), he could help... • I have been lurking for the past few months but have decided to be a contributor in 2015. My interest is in California Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa, Sonoma and Paso Robles-Blends),  Washington Cab Sav & Merlot and some daily drinkers from Chile and Argentina. I have visited Napa, Sonoma and Paso a few times in the past 5 years but look forward to co... Read More

  • That Wine 101 link is quite helpful.  Thanks V V.Joanne, it also helps to visit a few wineries and do the free / low cost tastings.  Most counter people know enough about the wine they are pouring to help you understand what's unique about each one.  Keep in mind that your sense of smell is even more important than how well your tongue can disti... • I have been trying to find info on wine terminology. Im lost everytime I visit the wine section and read the reviews as I dont know what they mean.  Please help. I enjoy red and whites that are not very sweet and not dry and that I can drink 3 sips at once without  having to pucker. Not as sweet as Beringers white zifandel  and not as dry as Mir... Read More

  • Hi James, nice to have you back.Serve it colder than you'd serve any other wine. Not freezing, but definitely on the colder side. You taste far more sugar the warmer the beverage or food, and the sugar levels in that will make you nauseous at warm temps. You don't have to serve it at the same temp as an ice-cold beer, but I think it's better to ... Read More

  • 2011 Carlisle White Blend, 66% Semillon, 24% Muscadelle, 10% Chasselas Dore' (or Palomino, from 118 yr. old vines at Saitone Ranch, RRV). Not to be outdone, the Semillon comes from Monte Rosso, planted in 1886, and Pagani Ranch Muscadelle planted in 1920. You gotta be kidding me...I'm glad I looked this up after my first few sips. Talk about try... Read More
