  • So it's been a while since I've been on here but I was just doing a little research into lesser known grape varietals. In the last four years or so I've been excitedly searching out American wines from other known regions to see what's been going on there and trying varietals I hadn't heard of, mostly hybrids. But this also brought me into lesse... Read More

  • Apsara Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

    Snoothrank:

Fairly fruity for a CS. Interestingly more blackberry/blueberry than the cassis that I normally get. Some stoniness around the edges of the tongue. Sedate tannin, slightly more acid. Easy-to-drink wine at this stage. Very pleasant and lingering aftertaste. Read More

  • Hasn’t it? When we started Snooth back in 2007, rosé was not such a hot button topic. Its growth over the past eleven years is astounding. Nielsen reports that sales of still rosé have risen sixty-five percent since last year. Sparkling rosé sales jumped by sixteen percent. The funny thing is, we can assume that prior to direct pressing most all... Read More

  • Taylor Fladgate Late Bottled Vintage Porto 2004

    Snoothrank:

This wine pours a deep ruby color with rusty tinges around the rim....it has nice clarity and excellent legs! The aromas are of deep blackberry, cherry, hints of licorice and leather belt, and the finish has an ounce of booziness and it does linger....fresh! The flavors are more subtle and simple with fresh boysenberry, dark cherry, blackberry... Read More

  • Bedrock Hudson Vineyard South T'N'S-blocks Syrah 2013

    Snoothrank:

Dark purple in the glass. Earthy, maybe a "forest floor" nose. I always get fruit on the tip of the tongue and, sure enough, lite red fruit--cherry, suggestion of strawberry, stone fruit. Then the earthiness happens, mid-palate. Nice tart acid. I could use a bit more backbone from tannin, but I'm still OK with this wine. Read More

  • As you can guess, the London Wine Trade calendar is choc-a-block with tastings. If you went to them all you wouldn’t have time to work! So, selection is the name of the game. I recently received an invitation from Berry Bros & Rudd to a tasting in their historic St. James’s Street cellars; two words turned my head. Vega Sicilia. Three other word... Read More

  • Throughout my global wine travels, the winegrowers I meet offer a unified message: Climate, as expressed through weather, is changing, and chaotic weather patterns are making vintages more difficult and unpredictable. The 2016 Bordeaux vintage is a case in point. But even after wringing their hands all season, Bordeaux’s vignerons have been bless... Read More

  • Rhys Pinot Noir Family Farm Vineyard 2012

    Snoothrank:

More-red-than-blue purple color. A tad murky. Tart nose. Very much tart cherry on the tongue. Some stoniness or other kind of minerality. A bit of spritziness, especially, on the tip of the tongue, may be do to acidity. A refreshing, medium-bodied (light-bodied for a red) wine. Read More
