Wijnenportugal was started up by Oliver Parr, who lives in Holland but has worked regularly in Oporto for the last 10 years. After several years of to-ing and fro-ing airline safety considerations meant that he was no longer allowed to take 2 bottles of wine in his handluggage, so he decided that the obvious solution was to begin an import company, and having completed a bit of paperwork, he despatched his first lorry load to Utrecht. Oliver is not a professional 'wine expert' (he's actually a musician, writer, part-time psychologist and full-time father of two) but like many other people on our planet has got good tastebuds and knows excellent wine when he tastes it without having to ask somebody with a framed certificate.
The wines and ports featured in Wijnenportugal represent what Oliver and Oliver's friends (who include restaurant owners, bar owners, wine shop owners and lots of other musicians) consider to be very nice wines, and they would be surprised if you thought otherwise.
