West Mount Wine was founded by Paul in 2005 to offer a different way of learning about and buying wine. Extensive lectures on soil types, climate variation and vineyard drainage were not for us. Debating what makes a wine taste great by actually tasting it was for us. So that's what we did. Our initial objective was to host and run wine tasting and wine education events for small groups, offering basic knowledge on how to choose and enjoy the best wines possible within your chosen budget. In 2007, we decided to launch a wine merchant to enable our customers to buy a hand chosen selection of wine that we both use in our events and are delighted to promote. You won't often find these wines in the supermarket and we aim to offer them at highly competitive prices to offer you great value, with the bonus of access to our knowledge, great advice and service. We are a small business and our prices relfect our low overheads. We seek to offer some of the most competitive prices on the majority of our range. – Description from AlexJelena

  • Elsewhere you can read about the offline I attended with OT and GdP and a bunch of winemakers, winelovers, and the like.  But on the way there, I think I solved a major problem with California wine; over conversation with GdP and an assistant winemaker from Napa, my belief was confirmed.I read in an obituary of Aldo Conterno that he had come to ... • Disapointed with my search results for Temecula. Most were from 2010...Anyway, we are going on a family vacation in the area and I need some assistance in choosing a few wineries to hit.  Most of my research so far has been the wineries' websites, which are obviously biased.  However, based on this I am thinking about Doffo, Wiens, and Wilson Cr... I figured I would start simply, and make a list of the top 5 red wines in the world. I'm not talking specifics, but rather geeral categories, and eventuallywe can start naming our favorite specific wines i each category. So I'm... Read More

  • I just finished reading 10 pages of very interesting, insightful and articulate posts about the perceived demise of California Cabernet Sauvignon. There was a lot of data contributing to the perception that California is in the middle of a high alcohol "fruit bomb" era.I'm not going to pretend to be Robert Parker Jr., James Laube or even several... • A friend and I had a regions-of-the-world tasting, and we had a Brunello that we loved (Nardi 2003).  I paid about $37 for it, but it was on sale and is more like $60-$80.  My friend has been learning more about wine recently, and was really ecstatic about this bottle.  I told her that she has expensive taste and she's going to have to spend abo... • While much of California’s fame is due to varietal wine, or at least wines that are labeled with a single varietal, there has always been a strong tradition of creating blended wines from the variety of vineyards and grapes that thrive in California. From the original field blends planted by immigrating Italians to the creation of the Meritage ... Read More
