Viscount Wines & Liquor
Organic Farming is thought to yield the healthiest, most natural food and produce, including grapes - and perhaps wine. For some, the avoidance of chemical fertilizers, insecticides, and herbicides in the vineyard is more about sustaining healthy soils for future generations to grow vigorous vines than it is about making healthier wine. Further, organic farming maintains a natural local ecosystem and reduces agricultural pollution of groundwater and surface water which ultimately affects human populations.
Large commercial vineyards are less apt to grow their grapes organically compared to small artisanal wineries. Some regions of the wine world specialize in organic viticulture such as Mendocino County - California, Oregon, and Alsace - France. Organic farming goes by different monikers: Practicing Organic - Certified Organic - Sustainable Agriculture - Biodynamic, etc. There are many different certification agencies throughout the world, all with different standards.
