Vintage Wine on Snooth

  • Brunello is the Hercules of wine. It’s powerful, strong, and valorous. It ages exceedingly well and lives nearly forever. These are testosterone-heavy wines that don’t need to peacock or boast about their masculinity. Rather they are quietly strong and confident, throwing powerful punches only when necessary. Vintage year plays a big role in the... Read More

  • Gazin Pomerol 2006

    Snoothrank:

One can be cynical in many things, but not about Pomerol;this fine property produces a fine result for the 2006 vintage with a bouquet redolent of a bed of fir branches, cranberries, and wild (unfarmed) cherries. The entry shows the pedigree of Merlot with the panoply of red fruit and soft finish. A very fine wine 92. Read More

  • A friend of mine’s wife gets really annoyed if I recommend wines over $15 (£10), not to mention my mates in the pub, so I’m expecting a lot of flack when they read this article! Why? The Champagne us Snoothers are about to chat about is $400 (£300). In case you’re wondering, that’s $400 a bottle, not a case! The wine? Moet et Chandon’s Dom Perig... Read More

  • Bad news here Fox, et al. Written like a scam artist. Who gets that wine from a father and wants to sell it? Plus that particular vintage is widely counterfeited. Does anybody smell a rat? Read More

  • I would like to say I have read a lot of posts and find more of these fascinating than not. I have been trying to educate myself about wines, not because I indulge but because I have inherited some wine from my fathers estate and want to part with them, The research I have gathered is minimal and somewhat frustrating at times.I have some very ni... • Back to GdP's comment.  Wine prices, esp of "collectible" stuff, have gone up faster than inflation.  A lot of the luxury buyers--out to impress--aren't very familiar with sourcing back vintages, they just know it's really hard to get on some mailing list, so they buy new wine from that list once they get to the top.  Someone who bought a great ... • Old wines you decant mostly for sediment, IMO.  Too much air can kill them.  Unless it's old Barolo, which needs decanting to lose the funky, dirty smells.  Young wines also want decanting to open them up, but sometimes they need days and days.  Better just to let them rest, although we all succumb to our infanticide impulses now and then.Wines ... Snoothrank:

Perfect finish to a wonderful lunch...need a bottle of this at home.A just description from Wine Advocate '"Over the past quarter century, La Tour Vieille hasbuilt up an impressive reputation, and their most recent releases demonstrate that they are among the elite estates of Roussillon. The late-bottled La Tour Vieille Banyuls Reserva leads wit... Read More

  • Yalumba Viognier the Y Series 2015

    Snoothrank:

None of the floral nose I look for in viognier. Pretty much a sour mess. Drinkable but with little pleasure. Don't know if its an off bottle or just a bad vintage. Darn, I really wanted this wine to be good. Read More

  • I'm of the mind that decanting is a good thing. Especially with aged wines. I've decanted young wines anywhere from an hour to up to seven hours just to see how the structure would differ. And I've done the side-by-side comparisons to justify my insanity. However, I do realize, as in with stemware, that this may be an extremely subjective topic.... Read More
