  • Only can find them in fits and spurts in Tokyo. Even the Langhe Nebbiolo, and whenever I see it I grab a case or two. Ditto for the plain vanilla Barbaresco, which is a real step up--from an entry-level wine that is my idea of the ideal daily quaffer that can also even work on special occasions. So I, too, am a big fan.Posted back on Dec. 6 in O... Read More

  • Had the good fortune to attend a Masters of Wine, Syrah Panel Tasting on Monday. I believe it was the last spot available for the seated tasting, consisting of 23 Syrah's from the main Syrah producing regions of the world. The tasting was held at the upstairs restaurant of the Wine House (famous retail shop and education facility) off of Cotner ... Read More

  • I really like WTSO for our everyday wines. They ship out on Monday or Tuesday and I pick-up at my FedEx Store on Thursday or Friday. Funny fact the FedEx store is right next to Total Wine and I pick up much more wine at the FedEx store. In fact the lady that knows me well at TW told me the other day "I thought you had given-up on wine since I ha... Read More

  • DMCKER - I've decided to change my post - partly because I was fuming at the thought that I was ignorant of '13 vintage in France and partly because of the fact I was being judged without knowledge of how I buy wine. I study wine that I buy and I do for a reason.  I'm also in a little different situation so ....my rant is gone - I feel better no... Read More

  • "RBA - That should be interesting especially given it's ownership & wine making team."How do you figure, RCKR? Seeing deals in Europe in the $10 ~$15 range. The Chateau as a whole across all vintages (even the good ones) gets a 14/20 ranking by Figaro, and ratings for the 2013 vintage are in the mid-80s from multiple sources. As discussed before... • Have you discovered the joys of sipping your rum neat, or are you only mixing it into cocktails? Both are certainly delicious ways to enjoy rum. However if you’re not yet familiar with expressions that can be sipped much like one would scotch you’re missing out. I recently returned from spending some time in Venezuela visiting Diplomático, one o... Read More

  • Trip summary of Columbia Gorge and more...Phelps Creek: Don't be put off that this winery is a bit off the beaten path and located at a golf course. They make 6 whites, merlot, syrah, pinot and a sparkling wine--about 5,00 cases total. The winemaker (female) is French. That combined with some New Zealand experience makes a leaner style wine, low... Read More

  • EM-Yes, they are 2010 vintage and older in the $20-$50 price range. I don't bring the higher end stuff on these trips due to not having a wine cooler and the temp variations.OT-I did put them in the fridge, but I  was wondering what others would do. (Lesser of two evils)Thank you all for the input!  Read More

  • I really don't think that letting a bottle of red wine lay around in 75 Fahrenheit degrees for two or three days is going to cause harm that can be detected by most human beings.  I wouldn't worry about it.  If you want to give them a quick chill before you open them up, that would be fine--10 minutes, or so, in an ice bucket should do it.If you...
