A few days ago I participated in a tasting/pairing event that featured white wines. One of the wines was Chablis, and, while discussing this one, the facilitator stated that it was fermented in steel and had never seen oak. I asked if that was common for the region and he responded that it was absolutely the case, and was so for all white wines... Read More
Everyone wants a good deal. It doesn’t matter what you’re buying, we all like to save a buck. In the wine world there are several ways to save money and get a good bottle of wine. One in particular is to shop in categories that aren’t as popular, well known or highly scored as some others. There are a multitude of reasons a particular category m... Read More
Thought I'd start a topic to see what "different" wines people are drinking. I've been on a hunt to find wines made from lesser known grapes or from unusual areas. Here's one of each. This is a rose made from Cinsault, not too unusual right? Well this is from the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon. Either they don't make very good wine in Lebanon or this bo... Read More
So, we have many different types of wineries with tasting rooms, right? Some are castles... (Castello Di Amarosa)Some are in peoples homes...Some are in mansions (Ledson)So on so forth...I'm interested to hear about, by far, THE WEIRDEST wineries/tasting rooms out there that should basically be in some kind of fairy tale in reality. Has anyone be... Read More
California, the land of sunshine, free spirits, and big wines. Right? Yes, of course, all that is true but today we are seeing that free spirited attitude change the paradigm for wine production. Some might say that we are witnessing a return to a different style of wine. Fresher, lower in alcohol and having more in common with wines produced se... Read More
It being earth day tomorrow I thought this would be a fine time to explore attitude towards the whole organic/natural/biodynamic movement. I reached out to some wine professionals to get their opinions about these wines, but before I turn the stage over to them I’d like to explore the situation briefly. Before we consider the value of these wines... @ EMARK, Your shopping habits mirror mine. Wine and spirits are sold at supermarkets here in Washington. The addition of hard alcohol was voted in this year so I find this a convenient place to pick up some of my favorite wines on a regular basis. I too find Costco a nice place to pickup that unusual stray that I am curious about. I did belong ... Read More
2013 brought new mega wine/beer/cigar stores to the Portland, Or./Vancouver Wa. area. We went from going from little wine shops with limited selections to 2 stores with over 2500 different wines each. This is nice because you can plan ahead, check your wine rack or cellar and go on line to pick your selections. Once you've determined what you wan... Read More
So we have some interest in having a West Coast meet-up (or you can call it a throw-down) for Pinot. Here's my opening proposal: We'll do it very close to the Oakland Airport, to save those who are traveling in from out of town (like Emark and JonDerry) from having extra travel if they want to fly. This would give LuchaVino a chance to attend... Read More
While this week’s glimpse at the top 20 wines searched for on Snooth over the past 30 days might be coming a bit late to use for Halloween, it's worth noting that our number one product is Fulton's Harvest Pumpkin Cream Liqueur! In fact, for the first time ever, a full 20 percent of the most searched for items are spirits. This shows both an inte... Read More

I bought this for a friend who had asked me to bring her a merlot wine from Trader Joes when I went to NC. I did not come across one. So as we talked one day she mentioned it again, I went on line as we were speaking and found this wine as comparable. She received it the next day and was not only surprised but thrilled with the wine itself.
