  • I noticed that OutThere purchased seven bottles of a particular wine at $14 and it occurred to me that it was a $100 purchase, and enough to last about a week.  So I got curious, and mentioned in the thread that it would be interesting to know how much per week people spent.  Well, Emark has better records and more time on his hands than I do, a... • I bought this for a friend who had asked me to bring her a merlot wine from Trader Joes when I went to NC. I did not come across one. So as we talked one day she mentioned it again, I went on line as we were speaking and found this wine as comparable. She received it the next day and was not only surprised but thrilled with the wine itself.

  • Everywhere I turn, I see people talking about 2010 in the Rhone (both north and south).  Lately, I've been on a mission to taste a lot of these wines and so far I've found some good, some bad and some that really would be better poured over pancakes.  In some cases, I've agreed with some of the wines being pushed by the "wine critic illuminati".... • I've always been interested in wine and wished to enjoy its taste but never found any that I liked. To me alcohol always leaves a bad taste and a burn which prevents me from enjoying them. Even dessert wines make me wince. Is there a wine that may open my eyes to the world of wine for a beginner like me? Something to help me get used to the taste... Read More

  • I've recently discovered my interest in wine since turning 21, and I've been learning some of the lingo through this great site.  I'm about to graduate from college in May, and I hope to leave my days of Franzia and refrigerated Yellow Tail out of a solo cup behind.I have a lot to learn, but I just wanted some input from you on how to become a w... • I recently heard that in addition to its contribution to the flavor and complexity of wines, that oak was also an effective anti-oxidant, helping the wine to age gracefully for longer periods of time. Also, that sediment in older wines had to do with the oak.It prompted me to search for some additional articles or info on oak. Found this random ... Read More

  • Hi everyone, just found this site last night.  I'm a disillusioned attorney seriously considering a change in career.  As I love wine (and the food service industry as a whole), I'm curious what the training and career path looks like for a sommelier.  I've seen organizations that give exams for accreditation, but I'm thinking it requires some s... • New here.  I have "inherited" some red wines which vary in vintage from 1981 onward.  How do I find out information regarding when these wines are best consumed?  I don't want to miss the best times to enjoy these wines but feel a bit lost and overwhelmed trying to find information. Thanks, and really appreciate any advice.  This might not be wh... Read More
