Welcome to UnCork-It. UnCork-It is the brainchild of owners George and Peter Stellas, both Chicago natives. The Stellas family has been in the grocery business for almost 80 years in Chicago and their stores have always been at the cutting edge of retail excellence. In March 2003 George took over running his downtown store liquor department and he immediately saw the potential and need to offer his customers the best prices in the city, yet in a very clean sophisticated environment. "The demographics of the wine and liquor customer has changed in the last few years and we wanted to build a store that addressed the changing customer base." Thus UnCork-It was born! – Description from markomkc

  • Domaine Fourrey Chablis 2007

    Snoothrank:

This was not at all what you would expect from a typical Chablis - it was more like a California Chard. Instead of steely minerality and crisp citrus, this was pineapple, vanilla and melon with a golden color and a buttery texture, which would seem to belie oak and a much warmer climate than one finds in Chablis. Not sure what the explanation fo... Read More

  • St. Francis Zinfandel Zichichi Vineyards 2001

    Snoothrank:

After reading what this site had to say about my 2001 bottle of St.Francis Zin, ... Zin, I could hardly wait to uncork it last night! This would be the first time I had ever actually tasted, purchased & let a bottle of fine wine sit for 8 long years, and it was worth every day of waiting. What a smooth berry delite to behold. Enjoy your bott... Read More

  • Just wondering if anyone has read this book by Benjamin Wallace? It's a fascinating story of a 1787 Lafite supposedly from Thomas Jefferson's collection. I am halfway through it and it's got the makings of a film! Very interesting, as it talks about tastings of the oldest wines known. Any thoughts from others? Can you imagine getting the op... • Gnarly Head Zinfandel Lodi Old Vine 2006

    Snoothrank:

Gnarly Head Old Vine Zin 2006 Lodi ZinfandelWe really like this old vine zinfandel. It's a hit with BBQ ribs. Lots of bang for the buck at $9.99 or so. Big robust aroma on the nose a little tight at first but opens up in the glass keeping you coming back for a sniff. Black cherry, dark fruit & some spice with hints of oak & vanilla as it opens u... • Biondi Santi Tenuta Il Greppo Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 1966

    Snoothrank:

Opening it was a challenge as the cork has largelyd disintegrated and was ... ... ... airtight. We managed to uncork it with just a few small cork chips ending in the wine.As the wine made its way from the bottle into a decanter, the color was strikingly pale with more brown then red. However, after a mere 10-15 minutes of breathing the color... Read More
