Welcome to UnCork-It. UnCork-It is the brainchild of owners George and Peter Stellas, both Chicago natives. The Stellas family has been in the grocery business for almost 80 years in Chicago and their stores have always been at the cutting edge of retail excellence. In March 2003 George took over running his downtown store liquor department and he immediately saw the potential and need to offer his customers the best prices in the city, yet in a very clean sophisticated environment. "The demographics of the wine and liquor customer has changed in the last few years and we wanted to build a store that addressed the changing customer base." Thus UnCork-It was born! – Description from markomkc

  • Same fruit, same vineyard, same vintage conpletely different beasts. I opened and followed the Mending Wall last night and tonight it’s the O&F (actually both side-by-side now). My takeaway is that the Mending Wall is much more approachable at this stage and the Once and Future will excel with patience. Tasting these it’s like a PS made by a Cab... Read More

  • So it turns out your intimations of cassis and petroleum have more to do with saliva than smarts.Or so it seems. This past week, Palate Press contributor Erica Szymanski profiled the slimy nether-regions of the sinewy taster that is your tongue, diving deep into its saliva-laden recesses to pull out a gem of a discovery about how the unseen bacte... • Tried the Duboeuf again tonight. Thinking that the right dish might help the wine, a put together some pasta and home made marinara. For whatever reason, the wine seemed to be a bit more bitter than last night as I found myself often tonguing the insides of my lips. Maybe the air got to it; not sure. RP says the wine has purple plum, but I'm jus... Read More

  • The higher the price tag, the tastier the wine, right?  According to statistics compiled by Charles Sturt University in Australia, Professor Eddie Oczkowski and a colleague, the ratio of price-to-taste isn't always as constant as you think. “The subjective nature of wine evaluation and the inability of consumers to know what's in the bottle befo... • Lots of articles come out this time of year suggesting wine pairings for large, rustic holiday meals and dinner parties with many conflicting ingredients. Indeed, there are perfect food and wine matches to be discovered. However, I use holidays like these to pair the wines with the guests – especially wine novice guests. The holidays are a chanc... • Oh DM, you're very incorrect about the sun.  (I know you were jesting, but...) we've had almost no rain for the whole summer.  It's been between 75-80 everyday with not a cloud in the sky.  Best summer I can remember.  Also, in the Okanagan valley, they've had record temperatures this summer (nearing 110f, bodes well for the cab?).    Thanks, I'... Over the past 20 years I have tried 400 to 500 bottles of red always wondering - what's all the hubbub about? I was becoming disappointed until I ran across 05 Kobalt. It opened a new door. I finally felt I was getting my money's worth. Have been through 11 cases of 05 and 06 with friends and family- this is it. We all agree - for the money -... Read More

  • Through snooth.com, UnCork-It showed pricing and availability for a 2005 Bordeaux in which I was interested. I placed an order, and they gladly took my credit card information.
