For years Pam and I were frustrated trying to find truly great wine. Selecting a decent bottle of wine from thousands of pretty labels with prices ranging from $5-$35 was difficult at the best of times. We were always happiest with wine recommendations from friends. So, that's what we wanted to do with The California Wine Club, start a wine of the month club that was just like "one friend recommending a great bottle of wine to another friend". We are now celebrating 20 years of business and the wine adventures keep getting better! Pam and I knew that there were hundreds of small, family-owned wineries dedicated to producing exceptional wine ... and it was this wine that we wanted to share with our monthly wine club members. Each month we travel California's wine country searching out the wineries, meeting the families and tasting the wines that never make it to local stores or wine shops. This is why it was so easy to guarantee that our wine of the month club members and gift recipients will never receive Read more »

  • I buy wine where I find it.I am familiar with both BevMo and Total Wine & More.  Personally, I buy a lot of wine at Total Wine.  They have pretty good prices and purchase of 6 or more 750ml bottles (and these can be mixed) gives a 10% discount.  Occasionally, I get a coupon that yields additional discounts.  I like their variety and the fact, li... • 2013 brought new mega wine/beer/cigar stores to the Portland, Or./Vancouver Wa. area. We went from going from little wine shops with limited selections to 2 stores with over 2500 different wines each. This is nice because you can plan ahead, check your wine rack or cellar and go on line to pick your selections. Once you've determined what you wan... Read More

  • So I'm a day late, sue me. Wednesday night a few of us got together in Napa for an impromptu offline. Wines that don't suck and  BBQ from Busters in Calistoga. About 12 bottles, 2 of which were cooked/spoiled, but some others I had not tasted before. We started off with a white. 2010 Ziata Sauvignon Blanc. • We're heading back to (my favorite wine region) Russian River the first weekend in October and are looking for advice on what to do and what to expect.  We've been to RRV several times but only during the off season.  Is there anything special we should do at this time of year, and conversely, is there anything we should avoid? • Thank you, Richard Foxall, for approving the post!  I am on LinkedIn, my name is Susan Lusher, so people can feel free to check me out on there.  I am based in the Naperville office, and Elk Grove is where our warehouse is.As for "Chicagoland area", I agree that it is redundant.  Call it a habit, just like the Chicago tendency to end sentences w... • OK, here is more.  I guess I did not compose my bathroom comments very well.  My reference was to the bathroom in my room at the American Club.  I visited WI in January 1989 to assist with the preparation of an RFP response for a bank based in Sheboygan.  Most of my time was spent in Green Bay, where the sales rep lived, and Milwaukee, where sal... • Hello, I joined Snooth because I found it a handy look-up tool during my first days on the job. I'm charged with tracking and transferring food and beverage inventory at a resort complex with an extensive wine list. Having very little wine knowledge Snooth has helped me ensure that I am correctly entering wines and vintages on my spreadsheets.  Read More

  • Hello!  My name is Susan Lusher, and I work for PRP Wine International.  We are a private, direct retailer, and you cannot find our wines in any liquor stores or restaurants.  So how do we do business?  We give in-home wine tastings!  If you live in or around the Chicagoland area, I will come out to your home with 6 bottles of our exclusive wine... • Georges de Latour Napa Valley Beaulieu Vineyard Private Reserve 1999

    Snoothrank:

Tasted this wine after having some Nebbiolo from Baja California. So, I can't say that my opinion was pristine. The wine was full-bodied and easy to drink. Not terribly fruity (which I liked) and with mellow tannins. Heck it has 14 years on it. So, the tannins should be quite civilized. US$61.99 at Wine Club, Santa Ana in 2003. Read More

  • I am pretty much prejudiced towards red wines.  However, that does not mean that I drink them exclusively.  I do drink quite a bit of white wine.  Probably, because, like most Americans my age, we are encouraged to bias out protein input away from red meats.  The good news for me is that I do love seafood and chicken.  So, that is really not a s...
