Selecting a decent bottle of wine from thousands of pretty labels with prices ranging from $5-$35 was difficult at the best of times. We were always happiest with wine recommendations from friends. So, that's what we wanted to do with The California Wine Club, start a wine of the month club that was just like "one friend recommending a great bottle of wine to another friend". We are now celebrating 20 years of business and the wine adventures keep getting better! Pam and I knew that there were hundreds of small, family-owned wineries dedicated to producing exceptional wine ... and it was this wine that we wanted to share with our monthly wine club members. Each month we travel California's wine country searching out the wineries, meeting the families and tasting the wines that never make it to local stores or wine shops. • Sorry to have missed it.  I'll give y'all a full rundown on the health issue in July.... turns out it's not a neck strain but something revisiting me from my past. My treatment involves abstaining from alcohol, to boot.  For the first time in my adult life, I will miss at least one week straight of work.  Leaving me another 150 days of sick leav... Read More

Not at all familiar with what Virginia has to offer. Hey All, Not sure if this is the proper place to post this, but wanted to invite all of you in the Santa Rosa area to a tasting of Virginia wines that we are hosting next Monda... • OK, quiz time. Thought I'd start a challenge where we can throw quotes out at the group, which has to then guess attribution. Who said it, and if possible when, why, etc.?Hints are allowed, even preferred. Person who gets the attribution right then gets to offer up their query. This would've been a lot more fun 20 yrs ago before the web. So yeah,... Read More

  • I was wondering what sort of new topic I could start that would pair nicely with my previous posting 'Weekday Wines'; well here it is - Weekend Wines.  Sometimes I just have to stop and take a minute to pat myself on the back for my quick wit but alas, this isn't one of those times.  Anyway, why not talk about wines we enjoy on weekends?  These ... • EM - The flowers behind the bottle are rhododendrons.  We have purple and white ones that we planted about 23 years ago behind the house (mostly a shaded area).  We too have mostly California wines in our cellar.  Did you mean Paradise Ridge when you said you liked Ridge?  We were members of their wine club for a few years but we had to cut back... • Hi everyone.  My wife Sandra and I have been into wine for the past few years and that's led to a few trips to Napa Valley and related areas in 2012 and 2013.  We enjoy all wines but reds are our favorites.  We hosted our first wine tasting party last night and it was a fun event - sixteen wine lovers trying different wines in a blind tasting.  ... • To: GREGTI am sorry that I am new to the forum.  The person who flamed me for recommending Sonoma-Cutrer Russian River Ranches was responding to a review I posted (maybe entirely separate from the forum?) His/her user name was "vjg6014".I don't entirely understand what you mean by Saintsbury OP?  I know that their "basic" Carneros Chardonnay is ... Read More
