For years Pam and I were frustrated trying to find truly great wine. Pam and I knew that there were hundreds of small, family-owned wineries dedicated to producing exceptional wine ... and it was this wine that we wanted to share with our monthly wine club members. Each month we travel California's wine country searching out the wineries, meeting the families and tasting the wines that never make it to local stores or wine shops. The crowdfunding aspect is a way to offset the initial cost of production and to validate which wines will be produced. Agreed. Winemakers will go through certain qualifiers in this model. • About a year ago, or so, there were a couple interesting conversations here about Hungarian wines.  Other than Tokaji Azsu and Egri Bikaver, I can't say that I'd ever seen a Hungarian wine in a retail store.  Then, at the Wine Club, the other day, I saw this and picked it up. A blast of peachy fruitiness is followed by a hint of oxidation (I hat... I enjoy wine tasting in the Sacramento region of California and prefer red wines, but whites are good too in the summer. Unfortunately I don't have very many friends who share my enthusiasm with wine, but I h... Quite a fruity noselots of cherrybut also something of a chemical odor, maybe, alcohol. Still a hint of cherry on the tip of the tongue, but not like the blast that I normally get from California Pinot Noirs. Something of a caramel flavor, but then, some spicyanise/cloveovertones. Then comes some serious tannin. I poured this glass from the ... Read More

  • Sorry to have missed it.  I'll give y'all a full rundown on the health issue in July.... turns out it's not a neck strain but something revisiting me from my past. My treatment involves abstaining from alcohol, to boot.  For the first time in my adult life, I will miss at least one week straight of work.  Leaving me another 150 days of sick leav... Read More
