For years Pam and I were frustrated trying to find truly great wine. Selecting a decent bottle of wine from thousands of pretty labels with prices ranging from $5-$35 was difficult at the best of times. We were always happiest with wine recommendations from friends. So, that's what we wanted to do with The California Wine Club, start a wine of the month club that was just like "one friend recommending a great bottle of wine to another friend". We are now celebrating 20 years of business and the wine adventures keep getting better! Pam and I knew that there were hundreds of small, family-owned wineries dedicated to producing exceptional wine ... and it was this wine that we wanted to share with our monthly wine club members. Each month we travel California's wine country searching out the wineries, meeting the families and tasting the wines that never make it to local stores or wine shops. This is why it was so easy to guarantee that our wine of the month club members and gift recipients will never receive Read more »

  • I'm in the middle of a complex move (of residence), so am not able to spend much time on Snooth at the moment. Nonetheless I  just was asked for a recommendation, and thus thought it would be good if we could all compile a list in this thread of restaurants attached to wineries. Hopefully with some critique. As long as the restaurant doesn't bec... Read More

  • Champagne is a wonderful place that makes wonderful wine.  Champagne has been treasured by the Czars of Russia, the Kings of England and nobility throughout Europe.  However, the big problem with Champagne is that the region is restricted.  It literally takes an act of the government to make more available.  While this has happened recently many... • Hi, I am hosting a varietal wine tasting for 6 people. This is my first, I'm a total newbie as are all my guests. I'm wondering how many different labels I should have in my tasting and then how many bottles of each for six people. This will be a blind tasting and I want to throw in a Merlot or other varietal to shake things up. Also, this n... Read More

  • Dr. Loosen Riesling Blue Slate 2007

    Snoothrank:

We just had a book club and the Riesling was a huge hit. Ripe green apple, soft peach and hint of pear shine through without overwhelming with sweetness. Love the idea of blue slate soil, but in truth I couldn't pick up that note other that the wine seemed drier to me than California Riesling's right off the shelf. I will be buying half a case f... I said I would ck this place out, and I did today.I have only wonderful words to write about Southern Lattitudes Wines. • Hey folks,I've been an while on Snooth, but never really paid attention on all of the great stuff to find here. Been looking around for some time to find a place like this. Since I live near France, I've been raised with Bordeaux and Burgundy wines. As I was getting older I started to appreciate other kinds of wines, like Brunello from Italy, Ch... Read More

  • I am truly blessed to be a short drive away from one of the premier wine regions of the world. When I moved to California a little over 5 years ago I knew very little about wine.
