Solidly good wine. Poured a glass (Riedel Syrah glass) and sampled immediately. Lovely nose (plum, berry), nice spicy mid-palate and glorious finish. Best wine I've had in months (since Insignia in March). This is in a very good place right now. Highly...

Notes are from 375 mil bottle. Nose closed on initial pour. Allowed to sit in Riedel Vinum Shiraz glass for an hour before trying. The only smell coming through first evening was camphor. The taste was not unpleasant, tannins were smooth and the fruit,...

Hi, I am an accidental wine enthusiast. As part of a major remodeling project ... in my enjoyment. So two nice Riedel Bourdeaux glasses and four adequate Libby white wine glasses were added to my cabinet. Next I opened a bottle of Gnarly Head Old Vine Zin and found out there is something I like even better than Merlot. Later I discovered Cabe... Read More
I am planning on serving a 1999 Penfold's Grange later this month. Many online reviews suggest a two hour decant or more. that seems like a long time for a wine this old. However, I don't have much experience with wines of this caliber meant to be aged for long time frames.Opinion? Read More
One of my favorite things about the Wine Bloggers Conference is that attendees ... ... filled the bowl of the Riedel Oregon Pinot Noir glass - there's nothing like having a fine Oregon Pinot Noir poured into the proper stemware. Flavors of cranberries, cherries and cloves were rounded out by a lustrous acidic finish. The 2009 Natasha Pinot Noi... Read More
Lately I've been seeing ads for wine tumblers and am really not sure what to think. Maybe I'm a traditional guy who drinks his Cab out of a large bowl stemmed glass, his white out of a smaller stemmed glass and champagne out of a fluted shape. I suppose the tumbler is alright however, for some reason I cannot describe, it's just not right for me... Read More

To GDP:I enjoyed the article and video on decanting. I have a 2001 Brunnello, double magnum that I am opening this weekend. I have a decanter similar to the Houdini model in your article along with a sediment screen. How long prior to drinking should I decant the wine? I have heard anywhere from 45 minutes to 3 hours. Thanks!Michael Quatrini Read More
We argue "not really" in our post on the topic: http://localvinacular.blogspot.com/2011/09/how-to-select-wine-glass.html. We wonder what others think about this. As we're barraged with advertisements and store displays and articles indicating the importance of the wine glass used to enjoy wine, does it really matter what wine glass you use? Read More

Hi All, I have a few thoughts/questions that I would appreciate comments on. I have been some-what seriously drinking wine for about eight years now. I am 61 years old and before the "wine enlightenment", drank mostly micro-brewery and other not so chic types of beer. Every year now for the past four, I have held a blind tasting of different r...
