  • Saint Maurice Cotes du Rhone Villages By Marks and Spencer 2008

    Snoothrank:

This bottle of wine was part of a lot I bought on the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/64390.The Cotes du Rhone Villages AOC was set up for red, white and rose wines in 1967 and refers to 90 communes in the southern Rhone region.Production rules are stricter than for the standard Cotes du Rhone AOC and the wine is supposed to be of high... • Dove into my first bottle of Rhone wine. A friend of mine suggested Gigondas. It was a bit more than I wanted to spend ($37.99) but I am enjoying it.The color actually fits the profile for Beaujolais quite well. Blindly, I could easily mistake it for Beaujolais. However, on the edge where the wine meets the glass, it's a tad tawny which I have n... Read More

  • Chateauneuf-du-Pape les Vignobles Elie Jeune 1993

    Snoothrank:

This bottle was part of a lot I bought on the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/64390. Chateauneuf-du-Pape was the very first AOC created when that system was set up in 1932.It is located in the Avignon/Orange area of the southern Rhone valley where it is the most prestigious appellation.Chateauneuf-du-Pape roughly translates as 'the Po... • First off I would like to thank the Academy...Al #1, I never understand what drives a winemaker to blend anything with Pinot Noir unless of course his Pinot would not stand on its own. I like both Pinot and Syrah but have a hard time seeing them together in the same glass.AOakA, Gigondas tends to be big, bold and high alc due to the warm climate... Read More

  • Which brings up the old line about Cali Syrah, "What's the difference between a case of Syrah and a case of Pneumonia? You can get rid of the Pneumonia!"I think the punchline is, You can give someone a case of pneumonia.I don't agree that you never see Syrah in Safeway in Cali.  The token bottle is the generic Qupe, but it's usually there.  Othe... • I definitely cannot post this one under v v's "completely different" thread. Alesia is Rhys' second label.  I ordered the 2011 Alder Springs Chardonnay last year and loved it.  So, when the offer came last fall, the 2012 was a no brainer.  Interestingly enough Mrs. EMark and I have enjoyed the Halcon white Rhone blend also sourced from Alder Spr... • Thanks Emark, there is plenty to explore in my area. It really has been coming into its own lately. The Paso Robles area is killing it in Rhone inspired wines and the Santa Ynez Valley has some excellent Pinots and Syrahs. I'm not a white wine drinker but many of the Chardonnays, Viogniers and Pinot Blancs are amazing.  Read More

  • One French varietal is working its way to the front of the pack after spending many years in the rear ranks of Washington's wine armada, according to a story this past week by Washington-based newspaper The Bellingham Herald. “Rhone varietals have certainly found their niche among Washington wineries and wine enthusiasts,” Herald reporter Dan Ra...
