  • Yeah - asparagus is really hard. You kind of want a white that has some herbal notes to it, which is why I mentioned Sauv Blanc before. Many whites have a citrus kind of element, some have a floral quality, and neither of those really works with asparagus. I guess I'd go with something like a really lean wine from say the Loire Valley. But it's ... Read More

  • Greece, Spain, Turkey or France? It's hard to predict the world's next “it” wines; one might as well be using a crystal ball to predict the weather. However, this past week an Irish Times columnist gave his predictions about where the world's next favorite wines will come from in 2015. Reporter John Wilson said this year's predicted favorites wi... Read More

  • Boy, DeeVee, it is disappointing that you haven't received much help, here. That Turf 'n' Surf course looks tough, to me.  Your idea for Pinot Noir is solid.  The only red alternative I can think of would be a Grenache.  Maybe somebody smarter than me can come in here and recommend a Grenache-heavy Rhone wine.Of course, I'm thinking that a white... This bottle of wine was part of a lot I bought on the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/70492. • Due to popular demand (don't ask where that demand came from or you'll spoil my fun), we appear to need some new wine discussion topics.  This topic was only relevant to Thursday as a test case but was subsequently expanded to cover the weekend too.  What ever you bring up in this topic should either occur on a Thursday - Sunday, or it could be ... •  We put a cork in the rest of the Spanish white and opened this bargain (~$10) southern Rhone blend of Grenache and Syrah to go with our lamb leftovers.  This is a lot of red fruit and nice acidity vs. earthiness and was quite tasty for a mid-week with leftovers quaff. QPR of the year (so far). Read More

  • Sandra and I celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary last night in Washington DC, after visiting her mother who is now at home (about 4 miles from where we live).  Sandra's mom has improved quite a bit in the last few days to the point where she can actually get up and walk maybe ten feet and back without her walker.  Her ability to speak isn't ...
