  • I think JD is correct when you talk about Cab Sauv. Best is from Napa and you pay. But look at Washington. Andrew Will, Pepper Bridge, Woodward Canyon, and Betz are a few to start with. Andrew Will is a great wine for people who like classic Bordeaux. The mass-market Chateau St. Michelle Cab or Merlot is actually pretty decent for what you pay. A... Read More

  • Despite my somewhat feeble attempts trying to find US wine in Australia is frustratingSo I think I would like to build a list of high Quality but not astronomic priced wines my American Snooth Colleagues would suggest I look out forBare in mind that if it is from a very small niche producer I would need to know how I can source it in AustraliaSo... Friend picked us up at the airport, definitely beats the heck out of fighting the huge crowd at the rental car counters. Why don't they have a contiguous highway from the airport to hwy 101.So what's the first thing to do in win... Read More

  • Fox - I've done that tasting a number of times. Depending on who you pick from CA, you can win, place, show, or bomb out. I've tasted through a number of Hermitage wines, doing tastes of the 97s, 99s, 2005s and 2008s, and comparable Cote Rotie, which I have more of. For the CR, the Guigal B&B is often the one to beat IMO - it's just a good wine ... Read More

  • I love N. Rhone Syrah.  It's my favorite red wine in France.  But the acreage of the region is so small and the area that provide its best wines even smaller, that prices have hit the roof.  Sure, there are a few St. Josephs and Crozes-Hermitages that come in around $25, but those are either made for earlier drinking and a lot less thrilling wit...
