We want our customers not only to have access to high quality wine, but have a memorable experience in our store. Pairings has the appearance of a club room or wine bar, with antique furniture (including a turn-of-the-century bar), leather chairs, wine barrels, blended with contemporary furnishings and a variety of interesting things to look at. It is a comfortable place you can hang out for awhile while you sample wines, listen to music, and take in the beauty of art and flowers around you. If you haven’t seen our new space, it’s time to stop by. You’ll be amazed by the size, which can accommodate over 100 people! Check out the ceiling – some people say it’s like being in a wine barrel! Fantastic turn-of-the-century wood beams, curving nearly sixteen feet above. And our wine selection has grown to almost 1000 labels. Book your private party today! – Description from iskicm

  • I actually know most of the wines. And I'd go with Hungarian wine since that's what the food is. It's not like there's any magical pairing mind you, but what the hell.I'd start with the goose and pork pate. Their fish dishes are often rather disappointing to me, except for the things like pickled herring, which just awful with wine, although del... Read More

  • Haven't put up one of these in awhile. This time will make things more specific and real, in that you will need to imagine you're hosting a meal at this restaurant in London's Soho. It's something I did a few times during my period of busy London business visits at the end of the '80s through early last decade. The first time I sweated a bit bec... Read More

  • White wines are a summer classic, but it has been a long summer. There is a good chance that you are surfeit with white wine by now. Ultra-hip rosé and orange wines aren’t your only options. Be a true trendsetter and cozy up with a late summer red. Summer calls for diaphanous red wine grapes that allow fresh fruits to shine without the deep, dar... Read More

  • The middle of February has long been a time to celebrate love. The ancient Greeks and Romans held festivals to honor fertility and marriage. The fourteenth century English poet Geoffrey Chaucer wrote of love birds choosing their mate on St. Valentine’s Day. During the same period in France, King Charles VI issued a charter directing members of h... Read More

  • Lots of articles come out this time of year suggesting wine pairings for large, rustic holiday meals and dinner parties with many conflicting ingredients. Indeed, there are perfect food and wine matches to be discovered. However, I use holidays like these to pair the wines with the guests – especially wine novice guests. The holidays are a chanc... • It’s time again to venture into the unknown in order to find some new wines for the coming summer season. Chenin Blanc may be best known in it’s home, France’s Loire Valley, but it is also an exceptionally important variety in South Africa. Perhaps the most important white variety as South Africa continues to re-establish it’s markets around the... Read More

  • So we have some interest in having a West Coast meet-up (or you can call it a throw-down) for Pinot.  Here's my opening proposal:  We'll do it very close to the Oakland Airport, to save those who are traveling in from out of town (like Emark and JonDerry) from having extra travel if they want to fly.  This would give LuchaVino a chance to attend... • Hi Guys:In my ongoing saga of trying to learn how to cook, I'm planning on giving lobster thermidor a whirl soon. I'd like to pair it with 2-3 wines, mostly as a pairing experiment to see which works best. Any ideas? I was thinking I could potentially combine the dinner with the vintage VS NV champagne combo I've been meaning to do...other ideas... Read More

  • I’m rounding out my reviews of sparkling wines with a few from Italy. Prosecco, being an attractively fruity alternative in a world of dry, tense sparkling wines, it is sometimes a touch sweeter than your average sparkler, but they are almost always great crowd pleasers. Not many people know about the Methodo Classico wines of Italy. Exceptional ... Read More
