Here for business, but finding the time to work in some wine escapades. Last year I met several Chicago wine people at a Burgundy tasting, and earlier this year some more at La Paulee. So on short notice I decided to let them all know I was coming to town, and luckily I got a good tip on an excellent restaurant near my hotel, Nico Osteria. Have ... Read More
You can pay big organizations to do in-depth studies of consumers’ preferences for beer, wine and spirits. Or, you can analyze data from a mountain of tweets. Quartz contributor Emma Pierson opted for the latter, crunching the numbers from a massive lot of alcohol-related tweets released into the Twittersphere during the summer and fall of 2014... Thought I'd start a topic to see what "different" wines people are drinking. I've been on a hunt to find wines made from lesser known grapes or from unusual areas. Here's one of each. This is a rose made from Cinsault, not too unusual right? Well this is from the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon. Either they don't make very good wine in Lebanon or this bo... Read More
Hi fellow Snoothers, I'm thinking in buying the Oxford Companion to Wine, They have it in my local library and I really like it. It's a totally enciclopedic book. However, It's the 1999 edition. There's a more recent edition(2006) but it's out of my budget. So i was wondering how out of date can be that book. How much the wine world has change i... Read More

Once you've determined what you wan... Read More

I used to spend a LOT of time on snooth, but a job assignment took me away for awhile. I am seeing some new faces, and some old. As one who is catching up, I would like to hear from some new people here. I think/hope we all share not only a love for wine, but a desire to share our experience. Welcome, new Snoothers! Read More
Everywhere I turn, I see people talking about 2010 in the Rhone (both north and south). Lately, I've been on a mission to taste a lot of these wines and so far I've found some good, some bad and some that really would be better poured over pancakes. In some cases, I've agreed with some of the wines being pushed by the "wine critic illuminati".... Read More
I know there have been at least one or two conversations about buying wines at Costco, but I happened to catch the one hour documentary about Costco on CNBC, last night. They actually spent a significant portion of the program (8-9 minutes) about wine sales. Here is the thing that blew me away. Apparently, annual wine sales at Costco exceed a... Read More

If I could give this establishment no stars, I would. The owner was completely rude to me. I was looking up an alcohol on my phone to see what the bottle looked like. He approached me and told me that I can't take pictures of the bottles. When I told him I was looking up what a bottle looks like he told me "no, you would have asked me for h...
