Off dry - but just barely - this very dry Prosecco (now a personal favorite) has less cotton candy and fruit phosphate and more champagne-like brioche and vanilla - hence more to my liking. Not your average tavern fare in Venice, but recommended if yo...

Crisp, fresh, layered and very morish. This wine has a wonderful minerality reminding me of Tuna sahimi especially in the finish. The bubbles are small, the nose has a lot of white flowers, accasia, some meyer lemon and candied lime notes, a little cri...

WOW! Fantastic blend from one of the most consistent vineyards in California. A beautiful nose that you could sniff for hours! Beautiful fruit! Soft and supple with gentle tanins and hints of Mocha. Wonderful finish that lasts for a good while. Just ...
The rich nose grabs you at the outset. Smoother and more mineral than many cabs. Blackberries are the dominant fruit, but the balance with the minerality was the main draw for me.
When you will try it on "rocks", you remember this experience for the rest of your life. Trust me, I am not a lawyer!

I know what you are thinking: Merlot? Argentina? Trust me, I was a bit skeptical too, but was pleasantly impressed. The body is sumptuous and the juicy fruit fills the mouth like the tide coming in. The balance and yum factor carried through and we...

AMAZING! I'm not surprised at all the internet buzz. there's some debate about whether the 07 is as good as previous vintages, but I really liked it. It's definitely jammy, and kind of reminds me of the Rosenblum Paso Robles Zin, if you like that st...

This wine was spectacular! A very deep purple colour, but on the nose it was AMAZING! I just can't describe the aromas. Oil, sugar, blackberry, flowers.. it so complex you have to drink it to understand me. On the mouth it is the first sweet wine with ...

Spicy, beautiful. I love you. I'm drunk. Too many wines before this one, but you got me. I loved the Syrah, and this one is taking it up a notch! You just have no mercy, O'Vineyards! You're tearing out my heart! Gotta admit that I didn't like Mojo AT A...

Succulent white peach and nectarine when you swirl it around in your mouth like mouthwash. Great fish wine. this one however has a subtle softness that reminds me of viognier.

Water doesn't do much good, anyway, OT. Tell her to sip some milk. Far more effective. 2nd best would be a vinegared dish. When I make my chili I want it to make me sweat from the 2nd bite. However that often means I'd have to eat alone, so I tend to dial it back from time to time, too. Spent many years in South Asia and Latin America eating lots... Read More

Lassen was pretty covered in snow and clouds kept hitting the tops of it, so I presume it got more. Temps in the morning at 4500 feet were 40-ish, days got warmer, but as you went up the difference was noticeable. There wasn't much more than patchy stuff in the passes at 5000+, but that was near the roads and with presumably less shade cover t... Read More
This morning I was pontificating in the coffee shop about wine bottle labeling. My buddy, being the the ex-lawyer type, asked a lawyer question. Who monitors this stuff?I then realized that I had never heard of anybody (OK, I'm talking domestically, here.) being accused of say:Labeling a bottle as "Cabernet Sauvignon" and, then, being caught f... “Michael Keenan believes there are two sides of cabernet, one fruity, one savory and herbal. He works to balance the two in the grapes from his Spring Mountain vineyards, consistently growing one of the greatest Napa Valley cabernets in his Reserve. The 2012 contrasts herbal notes of sage and forest floor with bright fruit that energizes the win... Read More
Fox, on the weather report on the 6:00 news, today, they said that it snowed the Sierras, today--probably south of where you were.New Cliarvaux rang a bell with me. So, I was sitting at the computer, this afternoon, doing my usually worthless stuff when the printer starts up. It turns out that Mrs. EMark was doing some useful rescearch and out of the printer comes a recipe for Paprika Chicken with Garbanzo Beans. Not only does that sound good to me, the picture looked great. So, I take the newly printed re... Read More
An area of New Zealand worth watching that's for sure. It and Central Otago are prime wine areas. A delightful nose that reminds me more of schisty French chards than anything else. With lemon, nuttiness, some apple, slight oak, a chalky on the nose float out seamlessly from and pale hay, green hued juice. There is good acidity and large mineral... Read More
EM - We paid $2,624 for the two tickets, plus we needed to contribute $5K to get us to the supporter level that gets free meals and an extra lecture on the Ring Cycle. Sandra thinks we at least had to contribute 2.5K for the free meals, but that wouldn't have gotten her that extra lecture, so the minimum we were looking at was $5K overall for t... Read More
