  • Just got this from Adam Lee. Meeting up with eMark and Foxall Monday for dinner. Should we change venues and do this? Not at all familiar with what Virginia has to offer. Hey All, Not sure if this is the proper place to post this, but wanted to invite all of you in the Santa Rosa area to a tasting of Virginia wines that we are hosting next Monda... • It being earth day tomorrow I thought this would be a fine time to explore attitude towards the whole organic/natural/biodynamic movement. I reached out to some wine professionals to get their opinions about these wines, but before I turn the stage over to them I’d like to explore the situation briefly. Before we consider the value of these wines... • In the coming weeks I’ll be writing up my experiences at ProWein 2014, the great Wine and Spirits show held in Dusseldorf Germany each year. This trade show, and it is just that, exclusive to the trade and that rule is strictly enforced, is one of the great experiences wine professional can indulge in each year. This year’s edition of the fair w... Read More

  • I'm about to poke the bear, I suspect, but something has been bothering me lately. What irritates me to no end is the marketing designation of wines and spirits as "premium" or "super premium". Now, I'm a pretty small time whisky collector and moderate wine enthusiast. Yet even I know that there's nothing really special about a Woodford Reserve ... Read More

  • 2013 brought new mega wine/beer/cigar stores to the Portland, Or./Vancouver Wa. area. We went from going from little wine shops with limited selections to 2 stores with over 2500 different wines each. This is nice because you can plan ahead, check your wine rack or cellar and go on line to pick your selections. Once you've determined what you wan... Read More

  • Saw this story about Antonio Galloni leaving the Wine Advocate.  (I first saw it somewhere else, but this was the easiest one to link to today.)  I haven't got any particular sense of what Galloni likes, although one kind of assumes that Parker would hire someone somewhat in his own image if he was planning to turn over some of the areas Bob has... • Somewhere in these posts I swear I said something about having an inverse tax on alcohol.  I'm sure it was not the point of the original post, or I would spend a little time looking for it.  So, recapping my thoughts, I have thought for the last couple years that there should be an inverse tax on alcohol so that the cost per unit of ethanol (Eri... • I'm making a lasagne bolognese for a dinner party (the whole deal from scratch, including pasta) and I want to get an interesting Italian red to pair with it. I'd love to get a Barolo but the cost is a bit prohibitive...I'm like to keep it at about 15 a bottle or less. Also maybe a light Italian white to have with appetizers. Unfortunately I live... •  I'm rather new to wine. I've only had de-alcoholized red wines from Ariel and I've had some red and white wines with some relatives who really know their wine. I remember enjoying it very much. But recently I've gotten into wine on my own. I recently picked up some Yellow Tail Shiraz from a nearby Total Wine store. Specifically, I picked up a f... Read More

  • I noticed that OutThere purchased seven bottles of a particular wine at $14 and it occurred to me that it was a $100 purchase, and enough to last about a week.  So I got curious, and mentioned in the thread that it would be interesting to know how much per week people spent.  Well, Emark has better records and more time on his hands than I do, a...
