This was a wonderful wine. Inky-black in color and juicy, big fruit, this wine seemed like a cross between a French Grenache and an Aussie Shiraz. This came home with me.

The nose was savory and meaty with dark red fruits, sweet cinnamon spice and hint of liquor. On the palate, it was big and rich with ripe, juicy fruit and herbal tea. The finish was mouth-coating but turned juicy with a slight medicinal note. This was ...

Really spicy and hot red fruits soak the nose. A juicy wine, pleasant to drink, with fresh raspberry, good acidity on the backpalate, and some dark chocolate.

Intense ruby coloration and with striking legs, this has loads of juicy Welch's grape juice and plum/raisin fruits on the aromas....slightly boozy upon opening but this mellows out shortly thereafter. The flavors follow suit and along with all of the aforementioned characteristics, there is a very nice licorice root/Earthy quality about it....n... Read More
Welcome Ellen, nice first post (a big rarity around here at Snooth).I've been thinking about some of the same themes you mention here, like wines in the $30 - 50 range, and the big field of dry wines, with some toward the sweet side and other dry wines very savory. The dry wines of much of Italy and Spain (Chianti, Piedmont/Barolo or Barbaresco, ... Long time lurker on both Snooth and Wine Berserkers. Why I decided to post now, I am not sure. Lover of California red wines particularly Zins and Cabs. Just getting into Pinots. Hate spending more than $50/ bottle. My comfort level is between $30-$40. Small wine cellar ( about 100 bottles) because we tend to drink what we buy.I do not feel that... Read More
We wine lovers think of winemakers like celebrities. Much like chefs, we want our winemakers to flex creative muscle to create potpourris of grapes in the bottle. Look out, varietal wine. Blends have arrived. This isn’t news to most, but it’s a trend that’s here to stay. We want to witness varietal synergy in our glasses and feel assured that on... Read More
Had a rose from Bulgaria the other night - a 2013 DiVes Winery in the Thracian Valley to be exact. It was made from 50% Pamid, 30% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. It opened precariously enough, there was an odd petrol/alcohol note, that burned off to a riesling rose pedal type of nose with a palate of cherry and strawberry followed by good a... Here are my WOTYs USA. This red and white are both California wines.Red - 2008 Scherrer Pinot Noir Platt Vineyard. Here's part of my CT tasting note - It's difficult to describe all the layers of flavors, ripe red and black cherry, blackberry, tar, a bit of smoke, fine grained tannins, juicy acidity, a finish that went on forever.White - 2012 Fa... Okay, we're counting down to the end of the year. With three drinking weeks left, start nominating your wines of the year. And, if you like, nominate a wine experience of the year. I'm going to have to think about the WOTY for a while, and I'll update this OP as things occur to me, but I'm going to say it wasn't a year full of head turning win... Read More
In addition to Cabernet (96%), a splash of Malbec (4%) was blended in to this Estate wine. 290 cases were produced. Raspberry and spice aromas practically explode from the nose. Fig, black tea, cherry and more dominate the layered and juicy palate. Clove, cinnamon, earth and cocoa are all present on the memorably long finish. This is a great exa... Read More
