Exactly what I (we Barolo Rist.) needed this weekend. The Gattinara was subtle and full light with feistiness that was enjoyed. -I am really happy to serve this 100% Nebbiolo not sure what to expect. - Wine notes. Blueberry, White pepper and vanilla....

Another happy accident - picked this up for $9 at a local wine wholesaler. Very full, round flavor, lots of peach, pear and golden delicious apple. Sweetness kept in check by nice acidity. Smooth, buttery finish.

One of my favorite finds lately, this is a fruity (but not jammy or sweet), easy drinking Rhone. The nose is cherry with a little spice and some earthiness. Silky tannins. Great QPR at around $10. I would serve this at a party with both wine lovers and...

I am very happy with this Merlot. I at first bought it for the name on the bottle on one of my visits to the local store. I find that it is a very full enjoyable wine that I know I can open and share with anyone. No bite just full and lush in the mouth.

I don't often get to rave over $6 wine so I'm always happy when I do. This wine has such surprising depth of fruit and spice and a great balance. Not all that complex but so enjoyable it hardly matters. A true value.

This is a great drinking wine. Plum and Cherry mostly with a nice bit of pepper. Take it to parties, it won't break the bank and will make people happy. It does lack structure though. I paid $12 and was happy, but $17 seems a bit steep.

Honeycomb in liquid form, this late harvest Viognier, synthetic ice wine (simply meaning they froze the berries themselves, then pressed) was possibly the biggest hit of our entire trip. Thick & rich, viscus and broad, the "Nektar" possesses one of th...

Like a prima ballerina, the light perfume and floral notes danced across the nose and pallate with happy grace. Yet beneath the delicate visage, a piercing acidity gave the wine a sharpness that kept you on your toes. Best with dried apricots and a cre...

Nice and precise on the nose, with slightly herbal, chaparral brush and edgy, wild berry fruit aromas. In the mouth there are lovely herbal shadings to the core of dark cherry fruit. This is smooth and supple, with nice soft tannins and integrated aci...

This is the house wine at the Staybridge Suites where I often stay on business, an I enjoy it at the daily happy hour! A nice little merlot, fairly dry, but lighter and more fruit forward than a typical merlot

Never a day of rest for OT. He crosses three time zones, and he's still spreading the word.Just to remind you that we are still flying the flag back here in the golden state, OT: This is an unusual wine. No one characteristic jumps out at me. However, the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. The nose makes me think tart dark fruit. W... Read More
I’m always being asked to recommend an unusual wine, “one that isn’t Cabernet Sauvignon or Chardonnay”. With media communications improving by the minute it’s getting more and more difficult but at a recent corporate event I saw a few puzzled expressions when I suggested Blaufränkisch. It’s one of my favourite Austrian reds and certainly falls i... Read More

Happy Garnacha Day! This day celebrates Garnacha and honors its freedom from the blending grape stereotype. We have its birthplace -- Eastern Spain -- to thank for this renaissance. Yet another example of how Italian wines--even Baroli--can provide relatively great value. Anyone care to guess what a similar lineup of 1961 Bordeaux would be going for?If I were anywhere near NYC on Nov. 1, I'd be at that dinner...
