Global Wineries was founded on the 1st of January 2004 and is a fusion of Godevin (Hungarian Wines) and Calistoga New World Wines. Calistoga was founded in February 1994 by Paul Dielen. Due to his strong interest in wine Paul started selling Spanish wines. Gradually the assortiment was enlarged with wines from other countries. In 2000 he changed his one men's business into a limited company and he became a full-time wineseller. Godevin was founded in November 1992 by Peter Goossens who's been active as Head Winetaster for many years in one of Antwerp's most outstanding restaurants. Why Hungarian wines? Poor Adelaide is having a heat wave, 4 days over 45*c (not too sure what it is in farenhiet), three days so far in Victoria and Sydney by the weekend. This is typical bush fire season for us and this weather isn't doing any winery any good and it's over three States. One ... J L Chave and his lovely 1996 Hermitage:Richly aromatic from the moment this is opened offering up an array of gamy tones to the earthy, blackberry fruit. Integrated in the mouth with the acidity seemingly qu... Read More

  • ° ° Recently one of our other bloggers here on Snooth, Callie Exas, posted a blog on dessert wines.  This is a great blog that outlines what to expect from dessert wines and what they are.  However, (no offence Callie) I felt a little bit snubbed.  You see, I am Canadian and one of the sources of national pride for Canadians is Ice Wine.  Okay, ... • The North Fork of Long Island, New York is home to some 30 wineries, who, together, manage around 3,000 acres of vineyards. The climate is maritime in the summer (weather predominately comes from the Gulf) and continental in the winter (when the weather predominantly comes from Canada). The price of this deal is unclear, but according to the Wine Spectator, Montelena fielded offers between $120 and $150 million for this Napa winery and vineyards. Some of my colleagues reacted with disgust as I shared the news with them. For the US to be selling out... Read More

  • Clearly this is a hot topic, and something we think about a lot and try to infer data, based on site usage figures and other metrics.Starting with Snooth. We saw our strongest week of traffic last week in over 4 months and our traffic has picked up over 20% in the last 60 days. We're a young site and hardly representative of the dollars spent, s...
