  • I find myself not enjoying wines I've had in the past but I do believe ... ... one is a very pretty clear garnet color in the glass.  A mustiness on the nose seems to blow off quickly.  On entry some serious earthiness and a hint of currant.  Then a pretty serious hint of unresolved tannin.  This makes me question the balance.  The finish, tho... Not a mainstream Zin. This example shows the wine-making flexibility of the ... of light passes through the garnet color. • Ridge Zinfandel Pagani Ranch 2011

Very attractive garnet color. Super intro to the palate. Very much in the Zin style that I recall from the 1980s. In addition to the blackberry fruit, I get the impression that they were not too fussy during the crushing process about picking out leaves and stems. I just get the sensation that this is a rustic wine meant for relatively sim... Read More

  • OK, I haven't posted here in a while.  B-I-L took another fishing trip ... Ruby Cabernet.Very pretty garnet color in the glass.  On the tongue there is a light hit of red berry fruit, but the big impression is "earthiness."  This along with a slight hit of bitterness on the back of the palate makes me want to characterize this wine as "rustic."... • Tres Valles Kuwal Baja California 2012

Clear garnet color. Astringent nose with some red berry fruit aroma. On the tongue, light on the red fruit flavor, and very earthy. Very rustic feeling. Slight bitterness on the back of the palate adds to the rustic characterization. Not a sophisticated or complex wine at all, but, all in all, seems like a good match with hamburgers. Read More

  • Alright, for all those who have been bad mouthing Merlot over the past few ... ... elegant through and through. Garnet in color with aromas of black cherries and dried cranberry fruit. Not particularly dark, garnet color. Musty, woody nose. Initial hit of candied fruits is a bit disappointing. Medium bodied. Very light on the acid makes this a pretty flabby wine. Read More

  • Unless you bought them with aging potential in mind, a fair few of your 2013 ... 10% Merlot. It is dazzling garnet color, offers delightful aromas of tart cherries, dried cranberries, and raspberries, along with soft rose petals, a touch of nutmeg, soft fresh tobacco leaves and savory herbal notes. It is round on the palate with persistent aci... Read More

  • Quivet Cellars Napa Valley Kenefick Ranch Syrah 2013

Clear garnet color. Moderate nose--pruney, slightly spicy. Red stone fruit on entry, cherry, plum. Slightly more acidic than tannic makes be question that this one is a long ager. Dont get me wrong, Im loving this wine, but Im just not convinced that long-term aging will yield a reward commensurate with the patience. Read More

  • Doubleback Cabernet Sauvignon Walla Walla Valley 2011

The wine is a beautiful deep garnet color in the glass with nice clarity. The nose is a lovely combination of ripe wild berries, blackberry, marionberry and raspberry intermingled with some earthy notes of leather and a hint of baking spice. The taste is a burst of tart cherry at the outset that transitions nicely to some vanilla bean and dark... Read More
