Five Reasons Wine on Snooth-
April 2013
I'm a lucky wine gal, indeed. I spent Valentine's Day sipping Oregon wine at the Ram's Head Bar inside Timberline Lodge, watching the clouds form and dissipate like a roller coaster around the 11,245 foot high peak of Oregon's Mt. Hood. Sipping wine while watching the clouds work their magic was actually just the beginning of a day—and evening—f... Read More

A few days ago I tasted a wine that aged in cement. I looked for more information on aging wine in cement but I didn't find much. If someone can tell me more about the process of aging wine in cement (and the benefits of doing so) then I would very much appreciate it.The wine was a Montecucco DOC. You can find my tasting notes for it here. http:... Read More

Somewhere in these posts I swear I said something about having an inverse tax on alcohol. I'm sure it was not the point of the original post, or I would spend a little time looking for it. So, recapping my thoughts, I have thought for the last couple years that there should be an inverse tax on alcohol so that the cost per unit of ethanol (Eri... Read More

I absolutely love wine. Snooth is one of the reasons I love the mystique of wine because it offers me a forum to discuss wine and all of it's nuances, it's history, it's wonder, it's character, it's beauty. I work very hard at my profession even though I have scaled it down to 3 days per week. After my work I love good food and love to imbibe i... Read More

I'm making a lasagne bolognese for a dinner party (the whole deal from scratch, including pasta) and I want to get an interesting Italian red to pair with it. I'd love to get a Barolo but the cost is a bit prohibitive...I'm like to keep it at about 15 a bottle or less. Also maybe a light Italian white to have with appetizers. Unfortunately I live... I'm rather new to wine. I've only had de-alcoholized red wines from Ariel and I've had some red and white wines with some relatives who really know their wine. I remember enjoying it very much. But recently I've gotten into wine on my own. I recently picked up some Yellow Tail Shiraz from a nearby Total Wine store. Specifically, I picked up a f... Read More

Well if THAT's not the most boring topic I have started... but after a summer of excess (or actually, a couple of years) I've got to buckle down and get in shape. I've decided to follow a low-carb diet called "Paleo" or "caveman diet". Basically it's all about cooking from scratch with veggies, nuts, meat and very limited dairy and fruit. No gra... Read More

Lately I've been seeing ads for wine tumblers and am really not sure what to think. Maybe I'm a traditional guy who drinks his Cab out of a large bowl stemmed glass, his white out of a smaller stemmed glass and champagne out of a fluted shape. I suppose the tumbler is alright however, for some reason I cannot describe, it's just not right for me... Read More

I posted this question because someone on another thread referred to Merlots as "tannic" and I don't think of them that way. But I also realize I am less sensitive to tannins than to, for example, acidity. I have to stop and think about whether tannins are high or medium, although I can kind of quantify them if I stop and think.I think of tann... Read More

The Cannubi case is finally over (maybe). Finally the judgment of 4 June 2012 the TAR of Lazio (regional court) recognizes the merits of the appeal about Cannubi crus.A little recap. Some of cru of Barolo are: Cannubi, Cannubi S. Lorenzo, Cannubi Valletta, Cannubi Boschis, Cannubi Muscatel. Marchesi di Barolo spa challenged that crus names defen... Read More
